While most eyes went to the men in the backfield, RB Jaden Kolker Jaden Kolker ATH Renville County West | 2021 State MN and QB Jack Howard, my eyes went to the front line, the 6-foot, 225-pound Center Landon Tanner, a 2020 Hidden Gem, stood out to me. While his size might sell him short, he plays a lot bigger than his frame, in his film he really controlled the offensive line to help keep the offense in motion. The only thing scarier than a big lineman, is a big lineman that can move, his first step off the snap is one of the quickest I’ve seen so far. He is good at shuffling his feet and keeping good position on his defender. When running the ball, the opposing NG had no chance making a play, Tanner was driving him down field to open up a seam for his back. His technique has impressed me well, knocking the D-Lineman off balance with the shoulder pad and then getting his full extension and continuing driving his feet until the whistle. Tanner is also a member of the Jaguar Basketball and Baseball teams. I was able to interview him for this report to learn about him and his plans for life after a delayed high school football season. Check it out!
PRZ: Hello Landon, tell us a little about yourself and when you began playing football.
Tanner: My name in Landon Tanner, I will be a Senior at Renville County West High School. I play football, basketball and baseball, I also love the outdoors! I began playing football in 5th grade, but I was introduced to the game once I could walk. My dad was the Head Coach when I was little so I spent most summers at the practice field at RCW.
PRZ: What do you love about the game?
Tanner: I love the brotherhood that comes with being part of the team. Being in the locker room, practice field, or game field is where I can go to get away from everything and have fun!
PRZ: What was your 2019 Season like for you and your team?
Tanner: Last season was the best season RCW has had so far! We went 8-0 in the regular season, finished the season at 11-1, falling in the State Quarterfinals. Personally, I noticed a big change in my game, my strength, speed and agility had really improved from the offseason.
PRZ: What are your expectations for the 2020 season for you and your team?
Tanner: We had definitely built a lot from 2019 and we are putting in more work to succeed again in 2020. We have a lot of experience returning in 2020 and we can all feel the excitement and passion in everyone to build off a successful 2019 season.
PRZ: What is it like being a Jaguar?
Tanner: Playing for the Jaguars is an honor! We take a lot of pride in our school. I take it seriously being a former coaches kid to step up and ask questions and help out the underclassmen if needed.
PRZ: How’s your recruiting been? Have you been in contact with any schools, and what are you looking for in a college program?
Tanner: I haven’t had any recruitment for football, I have one offer in baseball, but I’m open to playing any of my sports in college. I’m interested in a program with good facilities to practice in all-year-round mostly.
