Next in our series,”Rivalry Spotlight” is the Warner Robins vs Northside High School football rivalry. Both of these schools lie in the middle of the state of Georgia, and their rivalry has been around since the early 1960’s.
This rivalry is one of the most popular rivalries in the state of Georgia, and it never fails to draw a crowd. This rivalry’s games always manages to pack out the stands, mainly due to the fact that these two schools are cross town rivals. To be exact, these two schools are only about 10 minutes away from each other. Last year, for the first time ever, this match up ended in a blowout. The final score saw Warner Robins as the winner, with a final score of 39-0.
Entering into the 2020 football season, each team, especially the Northside Eagles, will be eager for its chance to compete with their cross town rival once again. This season will mark the 63rd meeting between these two teams, and we can assure you that Northside will be looking to make sure they don’t have a repeat of what occurred last year.
Here’s some key notes for each team, and some of their key players leading up to this season:
Northside High
Northside High will be returning a good mixture of playmakers from each class. On offense, their RB, Kalik Evans will be returning for his JR year, and WR Justin Luke will also be returning. While each of these players will look to continue to make plays and put up numbers, it can be expected that they will start receiving a little more attention from college programs as well. Northside’s defense, which is hoping to greatly improve in this match up will feature players such as their DB Elijah Cotton, and their LB’s Kayleb Pierce and Micah Thurman. Last season, Northside endured its first losing 3 win season since 1991. They can only improve from here on out.
Warner Robins
Warner Robins, who was 13-2 last year, and lost in the State Championship to Buford, will be returning a lot of key players in this match up as well. To start, their defense will be returning LB’s Ahmad Walker, and Demarcious Robinson. Walker, who is committed to Liberty University, and Robinson, who is committed to Army, will be looking to be instrumental in the Demon’s success on defense. With this, their DE, Vic Burley, who has received offers from the likes of Alabama and Auburn, will hope to have another monstrous year. If the Demon’s defense can continue to play at a high level just as it did in the 2019 season, Northside will have a lot to worry about. With this, Warner Robins also has their starting QB, Jalen Addie Jalen Addie 6'3" | 205 lbs | QB Warner Robins | 2021 State GA returning, as well as their starting RB, Jahlen Rutherford Jahlen Rutherford 5'9" | 190 lbs | RB Warner Robins | 2021 State GA . If all goes according to their plans, they will give Northside a hard time once again.
