Sequoyah will need to replace their All-County defensive back Myles McGee (North Illinois) but returns a few players who helped carry the team last year as juniors. Another rising junior athlete has the potential to be one of the breakout players in Cherokee County.
Jaden Mitchell, RB, Class of 2021
Mitchell was the most consistent offensive threat last season for Sequoyah and one of the best playmakers on the team. He finished third in Cherokee County in rushing yards with 768 on 149 carries (5.2 average) while scoring five times on the ground. He added a receiving touchdown and one more on defense while playing defensive back while earning second-team All-Region and All-County honors.
The lead ball carrier in Sequoyah’s Wing-T offense, Mitchell (5’10” and 180 pounds) is stronger than he looks. He keeps his balance well through contact and it regularly takes multiple tacklers to bring him down. He holds an offer from Trine University (IN) and has interest from other Division III programs. An excellent safety as well, Mitchell projects as running back at the next level.
Aidan Moore, RB/TE/WR/DB, Class of 2022
One of the more impressive athletes on Sequoyah’s roster, Moore could be a breakout player in 2020.
As a sophomore, he proved to be a capable option both running and receiving. With increased opportunities in 2020, I’d expect his numbers to trend upward. He finished his sophomore season with 191 rushing yards on 31 carries (6.1 average) and 129 receiving yards on 11 catches (11.7 average). He found the endzone twice and with another year of development he should be one of the better offensive weapons in the region.
An MVP Camp and Georgia Elite Classic invitee, Moore has the frame and skills to play college football. At what level is yet to be determined.
Jack Blackman, DB, Class of 2021
Blackman earned second-team All-Region and All-County honors as a junior as he was one of the most productive defensive players in the area. He finished 2019 with 57 tackles (32 solo and 25 assists) while adding three interceptions.
A talented Lacrosse player as well, Blackman (5’11” and 185 pounds) projects to once again as one of the best defensive backs in both the region and county. He has the ball skills on the backend to be a playmaker and is a sure tackler when supporting the run.
Should be able to produce in college, likely at the Division III level.
Avery Born, DE/TE, Class of 2022
Possibly the strongest player on Sequoyah’s roster, Born (6’4” and 200 pounds) was productive in 2019 as a sophomore. He finished with 39 tackles (21 solo and 18 assists) while adding six sacks. He was one of the better pash rushers in Cherokee County and with another year of development, I’d expect a repeat performance during his junior campaign.
