Small school players can sometimes get overlooked when it comes to recruiting, but that’s not for the lack of talent out there. Evaluations can be more difficult at times, but if you’re paying attention you’ll find players that are deserving of attention and interest by colleges.
Charles Huelsman 6’3 195 WR Marion Local- Huelsman a 2021 who is coming off a big junior year where he had 50+ receptions and over a 1,000 yards as he helped lead Marion Local to their 3rd state championship in 4 years. Huelsman is a big target that projects as a possession receiver at the college level. He does a great job of tracking the deep ball, and don’t count against him winning the 50/50 balls. Huelsman has had interest from D2’s Tiffin and Notre Dame College and D1 FCS Dayton.
Hunter Darrah 6’5 240 DE/OT Buckeye Local- Darrah earned All Southwest District as a sophomore. Darrah has a nonstop motor in working his way to the quarterback. He has a great blend of size, strength, and athleticism that make him a handful to block on the defensive side of the ball. All of that being said Hunter could find himself playing offensive tackle at the college level. He has the athleticism and strength to kick into a strong pass set. Darrah is getting interest from Penn State as an offensive tackle, and is also getting looks by Miami of Ohio, Cincinnati, Marshall and Akon.
Bryce Basinger 6’3 170 WR/DB Pandora-Gilboa- When watching Basinger’s film athlete is the word that comes to mind. He’s coming off a big Junior season where he caught 50+ passes and 1,100 yards and 10td’s in 10 games. Basinger brings track speed and athleticism to the football field as he qualified for the 2019 OHSAA state track meet in the 100, 200, and long jump. He was used in the vertical passing attack as well as on reverses in the running game for the Rockets. Basinger is also a solid defensive back who long and breaks well on the ball. He’s currently getting looks from Ohio D3’s, but could reward a D2 school who’s willing to work with him as he adds strength and fills out.
Wyatt Reiman 6’0 175 rb/lb Shadyside- After watching Reiman’s film I like him to project to Safety at the next level. He takes good angles to the ball carrier, and plays the ball well in the air. He plays a physical brand of football which is evident when he’s running the ball on offense. Defensively he’s the sure tackler you want as the last line of defense. Reiman should start getting looks from colleges in his upcoming junior season.
