Several NFL players have come from the Moore League including: Desean Jackson, Willie McGinest, Datone Jones and Jeremy McNichols.
While Long Beach Poly has dominated the Moore League and produced more NFL players than any high school in the nation (60), the league is loaded with talent and is known for its speed and physical style of play.
Here is a look at the top 10 defensive players in the Moore League this season.
10. Kione Carey, Long Beach Poly, 2022
Carey produced as a pass rusher for the Jackrabbits last season but this is more of an upside pick. He is just under 6-feet tall and 200 pounds and will likely be recruited as an outside linebacker. He has quick feet as a pass rusher off the edge and when he decides to rush from the inside, he gets skinny and is hard for offensive linemen to contain. Carey had four sacks and six tackles for a loss as a sophomore and will be one of the best pass rushers in the league this season.

9. Leroy Crook, Wilson, 2022
Crook is one of the better athletes in the league and is a star on the track and field team at Wilson. He was Second Team All-Moore League last season and had 66 tackles for the Bruins. He had an interception in Wilson’s playoff win against Fullerton and returned a fumble for a touchdown against Compton. Crook flies to the ball and will garner some recruiting interest after his junior season.

8. David Bakalar, Long Beach Poly, 2021
Long Beach Poly featured one of the best linebacker corps in the state last season, and Bakalar was a part of that group. He transferred to Poly from St. John Bosco prior to last season and he showed he was one of the more athletic linebackers on the team. He had 38 tackles, eight for a loss, three pass deflections and two forced fumbles. With Anthony Parker and Jonathan Scott graduating, Bakalar will be more featured in the defense and draw attention from scouts.
7. Travis Perryman, Lakewood, 2022
Coach Scott Meyer took Lakewood to the playoffs last season after back-to-back 3-win seasons and a big part of that was the play of Perryman. He led the Lancers with 60 tackles, 46 of them being solo tackles. He had an interception that he returned for a touchdown against Jordan. Perryman is 6-foot-1, 205 pounds and one of the tougher players in the league.

6. Cole Henderson, Wilson, 2022
Wilson has two fantastic pass rushers up front (check back later this week for the top five) and Henderson is very effective off the edge. He had 36 tackles for the Bruins as a sophomore, seven for a loss and had six sacks. His speed caused him to block to punts against Compton and he deflected a pass and forced a fumble. Henderson was Second Team All-Moore League last season and will keep offensive coordinators awake at night thinking about how to keep him at bay.
