Southeast Polk vs. West Des Moines Valley
This is easily the most anticipated game of the week. The game pits the preseason top team in most state-wide polls against the top team in most state-wide polls. This game has lots of importance for Valley. A loss would mean a 1-2 start for the team with the addition of the state’s best quarterback. The offense has sputtered thus far in the season, and for the Tigers, this week is redemption week.
Players to watch
For Valley, it has to start with the offense.
Jake Rubley Jake Rubley 6'3" | QB Highlands Ranch | 2021 State CO – Hasn’t had the start in Iowa he probably would have liked, but a player of his caliber will come around when he’s comfortable. It’s a new everything for Rubley in West Des Moines.
Jayden Williams Jayden Williams 5'11" | RB Heritage Hall | 2021 OK – The offense for Valley rebounded, but they didn’t have the start they wanted against Roosevelt in week 1. Failed to muster much of anything against rival Dowling in week 2 and didn’t play in week 3. Williams will be Rubley’s teammate at Kansas State next year and is part of the reason he’s at Valley.
Xavier Nwankpa Xavier Nwankpa 6'3" | 190 lbs | DB Southeast Polk | 2022 State IA , Southeast Polk – Will be a key in helping to slow an explosive offense for Valley. He is a 4-star ’22 DB with 18 offers, most recently from Princeton. He also holds notable offers from Penn State, Ohio State, Texas, Florida, Oklahoma, Iowa, and Iowa State. He will also be seen on the Rams offense and will be a key to a 4-0 start and win over Valley.
Jaxon Dailey Jaxon Dailey 6'2" | 205 lbs | QB Southeast Polk | 2022 State IA , Southeast Polk – Nwankpa’s classmate; he’s a quarterback on the rise in the state. Dailey has thrown for 447 yards and four touchdowns in the first three games. He can move from the pocket when he needs to and has scrambled for a touchdown this year. Playing against the teams they play week in and week out, Dailey is used to stiff competition, but this could be one of the most anticipated ones he played in.
