Below are my top 5 players in South Carolina who don’t have any FBS offers that will surprise you.
OT/DT Ryan Frans Ryan Frans 6'3" | 300 lbs | OL Blythewood | 2021 State SC , Blythewood
Frans is a 6’3, 295 pound two-way player who projects on the offensive line. He plays left tackle but is a likely guard or center in college unless he plays at a small school. The underrated player can pull and locate targets well. Has a 3.7 GPA.
S Joseph Byrnes Joseph Byrnes 6'0" | 180 lbs | DB Camden | 2021 State SC , Camden
It is surprising that Byrnes does not have some good offers at 6’0, 180 pounds with 4.5 speed. He was an all-region and all-state pick in 2019. Byrnes has very good ball skills and is an active tackler against the run. Whether it is coming downhill in the box or the range to make plays laterally he is a good open field and traffic tackler. In 2019 he finished with 108 tackles, two picks, 10 breakups, and was good on punt returns. Keep an eye on this name.
OL Avery Hewitt Avery Hewitt 6'3" | 305 lbs | OL Dillon | 2021 State SC , Dillon
This one baffles me just as much as any because Hewitt has size (6’3, 295) and a 4.955 GPA, which is very impressive. Hewitt plays left tackle and projects inside to guard because he has a strong punch and has a guard body. He pulls very well for someone his size as well. I fully expect some G5 schools and high end FCS schools to eventually give him interest and if they don’t he will be a huge steal for the small school.
FS Hy-Kein, Nhan Jr, Spring Valley
Spring Valley always has someone who signs with a D1 program it seems like and Hhan (5’10, 175) should be no different. He plays safety, receiver, and punt return for them. In 2019 he finished with 47 tackles, six interceptions, and five pass breakups. On special teams he had 124 total yards and one touchdown as well. The first thing that jumps out on tape is that he has very good ball skills and vertical ability to high point the ball. P5 teams are looking for super fast players or guys with length and size so him being undersized hurts in that regard but he is a very good player whose ability to create turnovers and provide good field position make him a steal if he doesn’t get FBS offers. I would expect him to be a star at the FCS level.
DL Sam Moultrie Sam Moultrie 6'2" | 225 lbs | DL Timberland | 2021 State SC , Timberland
Tweeners on defense often play a level below their talent and at 5’11, 275 pounds that is indeed possible for Moultrie. Despite his size, he has been wreaking havoc in AA since his sophomore year. After a game in 2018 his head coach Art Craig said “no team is going to block sophomore defensive lineman Sam Moultrie Sam Moultrie 6'2" | 225 lbs | DL Timberland | 2021 State SC with one person” and from the film see it appears that is true. Moultrie would be another big steal with his quick get off and ability to disrupt plays before the quarterback can hand the ball off.
