Here is a scouting report on the Vikings who produced in the season opener.
Offensive Stars of the Game
WR, Tanner Barcus 5’10”, 175 – Barcus showed that he could be a solid position slot receiver at the next level. The Parsons senior caught six balls for 132 yards. He found the end zone once on a 56-yard reception. Barcus can break tackles and has a frame for also being a solid blocking end. Junior colleges should give Barcus a look.
QB, Ethan Houk Ethan Houk 6'1" | 180 lbs | QB Parsons | 2021 State KS , 6’1”, 195 (’21 Ranked No. 147) – Houk, who is being looked at by NAIA colleges, had an up-and-down night. He threw for one score and ran for another in the 42-12 loss. Houk was under pressure all game and was tackled for losses seven different times. Houk does have a solid pocket presence and a big arm. NAIA and JUCO recruiters should continue to keep an eye on Houk.
WR, Dion Sylvester, 5’8”, 160 – Sylvester is a Class of 2022 talent to put in your memory banks. He is super speedy and talented. Sylvester had two receptions for 13 yards and two rushes for 22 yards. He was targeted multiple times and his role in the offense will only increase. A quick comparable for him is a very raw Darren Sproles type of a player.
All three Parsons athletes are looking for their first collegiate offers.
Defensive Stars of the Game
DL, Steven Knapper, 5’10”, 160– Knapper, a junior, impressed on defense. He finished with a team-high seven tackles against a tough Anderson County offensive line. He has a quick motor and can separate from blockers. He has two seasons to impress scouts. Knapper could be a fringe Division II athlete and a solid NAIA recruit.
DL, Tre Russ, 6’1”, 260– Russ is another junior who played well against the Bulldogs. He has a very low center of gravity and is very strong. He had five tackles in the loss. He also played guard on the offensive side of the ball.
DL, Isiah Tyson, 6’3”, 215 – Parsons has several reasons to be optimistic as a third junior excelled on defense. Tyson, arguably, as the biggest upside among this trio. He has a football frame. Tyson’s goals for the rest of this season and next should be to get stronger and meaner. He finished with three tackles but kept bodies off the linebackers behind him.
