In any normal season this would mark the halfway point of the season, however in this bizarre world of 2020 that we live in we’re two weeks from preparing for the OHSAA state playoffs and everyone who’s not opted out are eligible. Today we go down to the 513, to look at some under the radar kids who you may not have heard of, but are working hard to make names for themselves.
Sereno Winn 6’1 160 (Princeton)- The senior CB has sound footwork and his ball skills are solid. He can turn and run in a man to man defense and he has the anticipation and break that would make him a good fit in a zone defense as well. At 6’1 one of the things that stands out when you watch him is his length. That length gives him the ability to match up with bigger wide recievers, but also has the speed to match up with wr’s with high end speed which makes him a versatile player. The one area he needs to improve on is adding some weight and strength that will allow him to play more physical at the line of scrimmage. Sereno had interests from D1’s Miami of Ohio, and Eastern Michigan, but has committed to Eastern Illinois.
Antonio Lowe Antonio Lowe 6'3" | 220 lbs | TE Taft | 2021 State OH Jr. 6’4 215 Taft- Lowe is an easy athlete who could play on the offensive or defensive side of the ball at the next level. I like him best as an stand up outside linebacker who can play in space, or drop into coverage. Lowe is the quintessential sideline to sideline linebacker. He plays a physical brand of football that also plays at the next level. As Antonio continues to grow and fill out he could easily turn into a high end player. Antonio is getting interest from D2 Tiffin University D1’s Chattanooga and Toledo. He currently has an offer from D1 FBS Arkansas Pine Bluff. With a strong senior campaign there should be more offers to come.
Ben Hambleton 6’1 190 (Elder)– If you look at Hambleton’s stats one thing is going to stick out like a sore thumb and that’s his efficiency. The junior quarterback is completing a stellar 76.9% of his passes on the season. He also has an astounding 14-0 touchdown to interception ratio this season. You may say well he must be completing short a lot of short stuff. Not so, as Hambleton is averaging a stout 12.4 yards per attempt. When you watch his film you just see good reads and accurate throws. He has the ability to fit the ball in small windows inside or outside the hashes. I like him in a spread offense in college where he can make his reads and distribute the ball much like a point guard would on the basketball court. He can also run when he gets in trouble. Thus far the 2022 QB has heard from Mount Union, Akron, and Columbia. He’s a player to watch that could have a lot of success at the D2 or D1 Mid-Major levels.
Antwan Peek 6’1 185 (Indian Hill)– Peek plays cornerback and running back for the Braves. He projects to a cornerback at the next level. Peek is a long corner that fits in either a man to man or zone defense. He’s instinctual with the player and ball in front of him as it is in zone coverage, but he also does a good job of jamming wide receivers at the line of scrimmage which plays in a man to man scheme. Right now Antwan is getting interest from Cincinnati, where his namesake played and Hampton University. Peek’s athleticism and length should continue to open eyes as his junior season continues to play out.
