Heading into the 2020 season, they will have some elite defensive talent on the field. Here are the top defensive prospects to watch.
Anthony Kaspereen Anthony Kaspereen 6'4" | 290 lbs | DL New Providence | 2022 NJ (2022) | New Providence
Kaspereen burst onto the scene as a sophomore on both sides of the ball. Defensively, the defensive lineman showed an ability to stop the run and get to the quarterback. He is a strong force on the line and was able to use that strength to get an edge on opponents. Kaspereen will continue to fine tune his game and grow as an upperclassman.
Mark Wright (2021) | Hillside
Hillside enjoyed a 12-0 season in 2019 and their defense was one of the top in the state. There was talent all over the field and Wright was one at the linebacker position. He finished his junior season with 63 tackles, two forced fumbles, and two fumble recoveries. Wright will be back for one more season and will look to continue his dominance.
Mekhi McFadden (2021) | Rahway
Rahway had a strong season in 2019 and it was and it was on the heels of their defense. McFadden was a big part of that defense. He showed his ability to be a sure tackler in the open field. He has great speed and agility which helps on the defensive end.
Jake Chapman (2021) | Cranford
Chapman is a strong presence in the middle of the defense. He has great skill and that led to interceptions and forced fumbles throughout the season. Chapman is quick from sideline to sideline and knows how to lead.
Austin Groce (2021) | Summit
Groce finished his junior season with a handful of sacks and forced fumbles. He is a piece on defense that can take any team to the next level. Groce will return for Summit as their best defensive player.
