The game came together at the last-minute after both schools lost their scheduled opponents.
For Dodger senior Tyler Schreier, it was another night getting to embrace the opportunity of playing with his teammates on the gridiron.
“It’s been amazing,” Schreier said. “At first, it was a question (about playing), but now being able to be out there my senior year, I’ve loved every second.”
Schreier had touchdown catches of 13 and 31 yards in the third from Carson Peterson, finishing with a career-high 14 receptions for 116 yards. The standout track sprinter has found a quick relationship with Peterson.
“Carson and I have known each other for a while, playing baseball together,” he said. “Our relationship has developed over that time so for us to both be on offense, that makes a really big difference.”
After falling behind to Marshalltown, Schreier admits a “pep talk” from first-year head coach Nik Moser was just what the team needed.
“We didn’t come in prepared for the first half,” he said. “It took Coach Moser to tell us we need to get going during halftime for us to turn it around.”
Schreier now has 29 catches for 466 yards and six touchdowns to lead the Dodgers, who head to Urbandale this week, in all three categories. He also has 52 yards rushing and a TD.
