Here’s a look at a few players who looked close to midseason form in week one of the 2020 season.
CREEKVIEW
Tyler Stevens, RB, Class of 2022
Stevens caught the game-tying touchdown on a throwback pass with less than 10 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter to help lead Creekview to the 14-13 win. It was his first reception of the night, but the junior made his presence felt on the ground. The powerful back (6’1” and 205 pounds) finished with a game-high 24 carries for 105 yards and looks primed for a possible breakout campaign.
Creekview used power-run formations for a large portion of the game on Friday night and Stevens will likely find plenty of opportunities to shine in 2020.

Grant Anderson, LB, Class of 2021
Anderson started out his senior season looking like one of the best linebackers in the area. He finished the game with team-highs in tackles (11), tackles for loss (4) and sacks (2). He finished as Creekview’s leading tackler as a junior and looks well on his way to repeating that feat. A two-sport athlete (baseball), Anderson certainly has the football skills to play at the DIII, NAIA or possibly FCS level.
ETOWAH
Lane Cantrell, LB, Class of 2021
No other player in Cherokee County recorded more tackles during Week 1. Cantrell finished with 13 tackles (five solo, eight assists) and was impressive in his block-shedding and run-stopping abilities. A three-year starter at Etowah, Cantrell is another linebacker in Cherokee with the skills to play at the small college level.
Carson Allen Carson Allen 5'10" | 165 lbs | K Etowah | 2023 GA , K, Class of 2023
Possibly the brightest spot for Etowah on Friday was its sophomore kicker. Allen finished 2-for-2 on his field goal attempts (39 and 43) and if not for a last-minute touchdown by Creekview his kicks would have been the difference in the ballgame.
The 43-yarder had plenty of leg on it, and all four of his kickoffs reached the end zone. Allen also punted six times (37.5 average) with a long of 55 yards.
