- QB Maximus Webster, Westfield
In a game that I predicted defense as being the key to a Westfield victory, it was Maximus Webster that stole the show during Westfield’s 43-42 victory over previously undefeated Brownsburg. The Jr QB threw for 303 yards and 3 TD’s through the air and added another 58 yards and 1 TD on the ground. The stats are impressive, but they do not tell the whole story of this performance. From his TD run in the 1st quarter, to his 2 point conversion completion to put Westfield on top in OT, Webster was a stud from start to finish. When you turn on the tape, there is a lot to get excited about in terms of him as a prospect. He has a strong arm and can make all of the throws. He particularly excels at throwing deep outs from the opposite hash, and completing balls into tight windows down the seem, which are both throws that many young QB prospects struggle with. They are also throws that can make or break a QB’s college recruitment. Throw in the fact that he has the athleticism to excel in the QB run game, and to extend plays with his feet… you will see that we may have a star in the making. It was a big performance from a young QB in a huge game.
- QB Nicholas Patterson, Mooresville
It isn’t often that you see a 6-0 team led by a sophomore QB, but Mooresville is the exception to that this season. Riding both the arm and legs of Nicholas Patterson, Mooresville seems to get better every week. In this week’s victory over Franklin Community, Patterson threw for 225 yards and 3 TD’s, while adding another 85 yards and a TD on the ground. Another stat that sticks out from this performance, is that the game was tied going into the 4th quarter. The 2023 prospect did not buckle under pressure though, instead he played like a seasoned veteran while leading the team to victory. When you turn on the tape,…you see a prospect with good size, a high level of athleticism, a quick release, and a very strong arm. Patterson’s career is only starting, but he has D1 prospect written all over him.
- ATH Micah Hauser Micah Hauser 5'9" | 170 lbs | ATH Westfield | 2021 State IN , Westfield
I promised myself that I wouldn’t award game balls to two players from the same team in any given week, but due to the magnitude of Westfield’s victory, I am making an exception this week . Micah Hauser Micah Hauser 5'9" | 170 lbs | ATH Westfield | 2021 State IN was an absolute madman on both sides of the ball on Friday night. Calling his performance “gutsy” would be an understatement, because this guy was like the energizer bunny during this game… He would not stop. It is one thing for a player to rush for 85 yards and a TD in a game, and it is a whole different level of accomplishment for a player to notch 25 tackles in a game (I didn’t even know that was possible). For a player to do both in one game, that is pretty much unheard of. Hauser is one of those players that gets you excited when you turn on the film. He plays a fast and physical brand of football, and has a motor that you do not see often. When college coaches are looking to build their team, they are look for players who are strong, tough, and dependable. If you didn’t know Micah Hauser Micah Hauser 5'9" | 170 lbs | ATH Westfield | 2021 State IN checked all of those boxes going into this game, there is no question that you do now!
- QB Prince Powell, Warren Central
After struggling early on in the season offensively, Warren Central is starting to get things rolling behind their impressive Jr QB, Prince Powell. As the season progresses, and Powell’s role expands, so do the chances of Warren Central coming out with a “W”. This week’s win over Pike is a great example of that. Powell was 20-37 for 232 yards / 2 TD’s passing, and rushed for another 38 yards and 1 TD. In fact, Powell had a hand in every offensive score for Warren Central on the night. When you turn on the film, you have to love the progress that Powell has made on the year. He is developing as a leader and as a thrower, with each passing week. His play has turned Warren Central from a team that was searching for an identity, to a team that is competitive week in and week out. The exciting part about Prince Powell as a prospect is that he is only a Jr, so he has a lot of good football in front of him. If he can continue to develop the way he has proven capable of this season… the sky is the limit for him as a player.
