The 6-foot-3 205-pound gunslinger and future Georgia Bulldog didn’t see too many drives his way as the Holy Innocents triple-option style offense used up most of the clock the entire game. That didn’t matter to Vandagriff, who led his Wolverines to touchdowns on every drive except for the final drive that ended the game.
While Holy Innocents used about 6-7 minutes of clock with each drive, it only took Vandagriff and the Wolverines a few plays to go the length of the field. Vandagriff threw four long touchdowns in the game, making it look easy every time he stepped onto the field. He’s an excellent runner, but he showed his arm strength off in a big way. He threw a beautiful deep ball on a post route to get the scoring started and followed that up with an absolute rope to the slot receiver down the seam for a touchdown on his next drive.
His favorite target was senior Zac Dyer Zac Dyer 6'1" | 180 lbs | WR Prince Avenue Christian School | 2021 GA who caught five passes for 78 yards and two touchdowns. Senior Landon Owens Landon Owens 6'1" | 180 lbs | RB Prince Avenue Christian School | 2021 GA also has three receptions for 86 yards and a touchdown of his own. Owens also had 119 return yards and one touchdown to go along with 41 rushing yards.
Senior Logan Johnson Logan Johnson 5'6" | 155 lbs | WR Prince Avenue Christian School | 2021 GA , a Troy commitment, caught three passes for 58 yards and one touchdown.
That’s what Vandagriff does best. He distributes the ball well and never seems to focus one one particular receiver. He makes the correct reads and rarely forces the ball somewhere he shouldn’t. He’s a true coach on the field who made every throw on Friday night.
He’s accurate on short and underneath throws, but his deep ball accuracy stood out the most. He does a great job of putting touch on his deep throws but also showed he can zip the ball into tight windows as well. His footwork is excellent, he moves in the pocket well, and shows good accuracy when throwing on the run. One of his best throws was on a play where he rolled out to his left, squared his shoulders, and made a perfect throw to a covered receiver on the run. He put the ball low to the ground where the defender couldn’t get to it, and he made the throw on the run at a weird angle.
He has the size, the arm talent, the athleticism, and the intelligence to play early in Athens at the next level. He doesn’t play against great competition each week, but the physical tools are easy to see.
Vandagriff ended the night 13/16 for 251 yards and 4 touchdown passes. He also carried the ball five times for 35 yards. Most importantly, his team got the victory, and they are now 3-1 on the season.
