There’s so much talent in Illinois that it became a daunting task to try and figure out who would make the squad. To make it easier on myself, I decided to limit my selections to ‘22 prospects that currently hold no D-1 offers but are well deserving of playing at that level.
This squad will only consist of the starters, the bench will not be included. As for the defense, instead of selecting a team, I will pick three prospects who play on the defensive side of the ball.
Now let’s get to the good stuff and find out which ’22 prospects made the squad…
Quarterback
Nashon Johnson Nashon Johnson 6'0" | 160 lbs | ATH Eisenhower | 2022 State IL – Eisenhower
A Versatile QB with the arm strength and accuracy to consistently hit his targets. Can also hurt you on the ground when he decides to break the pocket.
Running Backs
Maurice Edwards Maurice Edwards 5'11" | 195 lbs | RB Warren Township | 2022 State IL – Gurnee (Warren)
Edwards is a physical RB who possesses the speed to go by you and the power to run through you; rushed for over 1,200 yards and 12tds in 2019 as a sophomore.
Jamariel Brown- Round Lake
An all-area performer in 2019, Brown is a skilled runner that routinely makes defenders miss in space or in traffic. Possesses excellent hands out of the backfield and is a threat to stretch the field vertically.
Wide Receivers
Cam Pickett- Chicago (Brooks)
A big-play-possession receiver with a rare combination of size, speed, and excellent route-running ability. Has the potential to be one of the best WRs in the state.
Jacob Bostick- Palatine
Bosticks’ size and speed, along with his ability to run crisp routes allows him to be equally effective in the slot or out wide. Has great hands and possesses the hops to win most jump balls.
Tight End
Jalen Tripp Jalen Tripp 6'3" | 190 lbs | ATH Lincoln Park | 2022 State IL – Chicago (Lincoln Park)
Tripp is one of the more slept on players in the C/O ’22. Is every bit of 6’3″ and is just south of weighing in at 200lbs. A phenomenal athlete whose size is overwhelming for most DBs and LBs. Has decent speed downfield but the red zone is where Tripp can be most dangerous.
FLEX
Tucker Miller- Marist
Miller is one of the many talented WRs from Marist. A prototypical slot receiver who can stretch the field vertically. Not to mention, he has a 36″ vertical jump.
Kicker
Joe Haight- Antioch
One of the more accurate kickers in the Northern Lake County Conference.
Defense
Chidiebere Anaele- Chicago (Brooks)
Chidiebere reminds me a lot of Aldon Smith during his first stint with the 49ers. He’s a long and rangy athlete with an incredible wingspan. His frame doesn’t suggest it but he packs the right amount power it takes to consistently rush the QB.
Michael Torres- Evergreen Park
Torres has great instincts and ball skills and is by far one of the best DBs I’ve scouted when it comes to supporting the run from the DB position.
Ty Hopp Ty Hopp 6'0" | 225 lbs | LB Aurora Central Catholic | 2022 State IL – Aurora Central Catholic
Hopp is one of the more intriguing athletes in the C/O ’22. A hybrid athlete on defense who’s a sure-tackler that plays a physical/intimidating brand of football. Has the ability to drop back in coverage as well as rush the QB
