When you look at the some of the best players from each position you will see a few key patterns. The first, and most well-known, is that Wisconsin high schools have done an elite job of producing offensive linemen. Another interesting pattern is that some of the top end talent on this list are at the more blue collar position. Wisconsin high schools are responsible for some of the best offensive and defensive linemen, fullbacks, and linebackers in the NFL. Positions that aren’t the flashiest players, but are the positions that take some of the hardest workers and positions that don’t get a lot of notoriety. In my eyes, that reflects the way things are done in Wisconsin. Just do your best, work your hardest, and take care of business. Ahead, we will go position by position listing the members at each position and giving a breakdown of their stats and time in the NFL to date.
QB: James Morgan, New York Jets- Ashwaubenon High School
- 4th Round Pick in 2020 NFL Draft out of Florida International University
- Third string behind Sam Darnold, and Joe Flacco
RB: Melvin Gordon, Denver Broncos- Kenosha Bradford High School
- 1st Round Pick in 2015 NFL Draft out of Wisconsin by the Chargers
- Entering first season with Broncos following 4200+ yards rushing and 36 rushing TDs
FB: Alec Ingold, Las Vegas Raiders- Bay Port High School
- Signed with the Las Vegas Raiders as a UDFA after the 2019 NFL Draft
- Lead blocker for one of the best young RBs and 2019 first round pick Josh Jacobs
WR: Alex Erickson, Cincinnati Bengals- Darlington High School
- Signed with the Bengals as a UDFA after the 2016 NFL Draft and was the only UDFA to make the roster that offseason.
- Has been a good depth receiver and an excellent kick/punt returner for the Bengals since his signing
WR: Daurice Fountain, Indianapolis Colts- James Madison Memorial High School
- 5th Round Pick by the Indianapolis Colts in 2018 NFL Draft
- Currently a member of the Colts’ practice squad
TE: Derek Carrier, Las Vegas Raiders- Edgerton High School
- Played D3 college football, but was still signed as a UDFA after the 2012 NFL Draft
- He is one of the longest tenured players on this list and has put up 56 receptions, 500+ yards, and 9 TDs in his career.
OL: Ricky Wagner, Green Bay Packers- Nathan Hale High School
- 5th Round Pick in the 2013 NFL Draft by the Baltimore Ravens
- He currently is a backup for the Packers, but before that he has played in 102 games and started 87 of them.
OL: Brandon Brooks, Philadelphia Eagles- Riverside University High School
- 3rd Round Pick by the Houston Texans in the 2012 NFL Draft.
- After his rookie contract expired he signed a five year deal with the Eagles where he has made a name for himself. He has played in 112 games, starting 106 of them.
OL: Ryan Groy, LA Chargers- Middleton High School
- Signed as a UDFA with the Chicago Bears in 2014 and has since played for six different teams.
- Over Ryan’s career he has played in 55 games, starting 17 of them.
OL: Kevin Zeitler, New York Giants- Wisconsin Lutheran High School
- 1st Round Pick by the Bengals in the 2012 NFL Draft
- Zeitler has become one of the most reliable linemen in the NFL during his time of playing with the Bengals, Browns, and Giants. So far, Zeitler has played in 119 games and started 118 of them.
OL: Ryan Ramczyk, New Orleans Saints- Stevens Point
- 1st Round Pick in the 2017 NFL Draft by the New Orleans Saints
- Member of the 2017 All-Rookie Team and was a First Team All- Pro in 2019
DL: J.J. Watt, Houston Texans- Pewaukee High School
- 1st Round Pick by the Houston Texans in the 2011 NFL Draft
- Three time Defensive Player of the Year, Five time Pro Bowler, Five time First Team All- Pro
DL: Shelby Harris, Denver Broncos- Homestead High School
- 7th Round Pick in the 2014 NFL Draft by the Raiders
- 14 career sacks while being on the Raiders and Broncos active rosters
DL: Robert Windsor, Indianapolis Colts Practice Squad- Fond Du Lac High School
- 6th Round Pick by the Indianapolis Colts in the 2020 NFL Draft
- Currently on the Colts’ practice squad
LB: T.J. Watt, Pittsburgh Steelers- Pewaukee High School
- 1st Round Pick in the 2017 NFL Draft by the Pittsburgh Steelers
- Two time Pro Bowler, 2019 First Team All- Pro
LB: A.J. Klein, Buffalo Bills- Kimberly High School
- 5th Round Pick in the 2013 NFL Draft by the Carolina Panthers
- 344 total tackles, 34 tackles for loss, 10.5 sacks in his career
LB: Joe Schobert, Jacksonville Jaguars- Waukesha West High School
- 4th Round Pick by the Cleveland Browns in the 2016 NFL Draft
- 2017 Pro Bowler, Led the NFL in tackles in 2017 and was top 10 in 2019
LB: Vince Biegel, Miami Dolphins- Lincoln High School
- 4th Round Draft pick by the Green Bay Packers in the 2017 NFL Draft
- Has 79 total tackles, 2.5 sacks, and 1 interception in his career
DB: Trae Waynes, Cincinnati Bengals- Kenosha Bradford High School
- 1st Round Pick by the Minnesota Vikings in the 2015 NFL Draft
- 7 career interceptions and 42 passes defensed
DB: Eric Murray, Houston Texans- Riverside University High School
- 4th Round Pick by the Kansas City Chiefs in the 2016 NFL Draft
- Currently on the Houston Texans roster, and has 123 total tackles, 2 sacks, and 1 interception
