He gets square and downhill quickly showing an explosive get off and great acceleration through the hole. He has good vision to find cutback lanes with impressive lateral agility and wiggle in the open field to break plays beyond the second level. He’s a very smooth ball carrier that doesn’t need a lot of space to break loose. Before committing to UC Davis he also collected an offer from Eastern Washington.
3. Shane Moran, 5’10” 205 lbs., 2021, Cardinal Newman
A very impressive all-around athlete that could’ve easily made the top ten list of DB’s as well. He’s a downhill, physical back that shows plus strength and power at the POA. He runs with good pad level, balance, and leverage that allows him to run through contact both at the LOS and in the open field. He possesses deceptive speed, quickness, and cut ability in space. Shows natural pass catching ability out of the backfield and is extremely effective in the screen game. He’s a versatile athlete that is currently committed to Long Beach State for baseball as a catcher.
4. Omari Taylor, 5’11” 170 lbs., 2021, Clayton Valley
Omari exploding onto the scene last year in game one when he carried the ball just four times for 172 yards and a TD. He went onto finish the season with over 1,400 yards and 12 touchdowns averaging 8.2 yards per carry. He shows very quick feet with plus change of direction and start/stop speed. Whether its as a ball carrier out of the backfield or as a returner on special teams he’s extremely dangerous with the ball in his hands. Once he gets into space he shows plus acceleration with the ability to get to top speed quickly and out run defenders to the end zone. He runs with good forward lean and pad level. He has performed well at several off season camps and showcases and is looking to increase his recruiting stock with a big senior season.
5. Antonio Hines, 5’9” 175 lbs., 2022, El Cerrito
A quality young back that has flown under the radar given his upside and potential. He’s a good slashing running back that makes one cut and gets up the field. He shows a good combination of power, quickness, and speed. He does a good job creating his own running lanes and finding space. Colleges will love his ability to lower his shoulder, run through contact, and always be falling forward. He’s a natural talent that has D1 potential and his recruiting attention should pick up as he continues to develop and progress.
