Here’s a list of some Hunterdon County players to watch in the 2020 season.
Owen Bill, Hunterdon Central, Jr. – Hunterdon Central will have another gauntlet of a schedule. While the Red Devils struggled a season ago, a player that emerged was Bill. He can make plays at wide receiver, and he’s expected to fill a larger role this year for Hunterdon Central.
Sal Brito Sal Brito 6'0" | DL Hunterdon Central | 2021 State NJ , Hunterdon Central, Sr. – Brito is a two-way lineman at 6-foot-2, 275 pounds. He is an experienced player up front, and he showed that he’s a tough player to block in his junior year.
Jared VanVeldhuisen, Hunterdon Central, Sr. – VanVeldhuisen is an experienced defensive end. He can get to the quarterback and he will look to be an anchor on defense for Hunterdon Central.
Bruce Washington, Hunterdon Central, Sr. – Washington will play a larger role for Hunterdon Central in the backfield after a concussion cost him some games last year. He bounced back well towards the later half of the season with strong games against Elizabeth, Union and North Brunswick. In a win over Elizabeth, Washington ran for 147 yards and three scores.
Logan Blake Logan Blake 6'6" | WR Delaware Valley | 2022 NJ , Delaware Valley, Jr. Blake will be a junior to watch in the state. As a sophomore at Delaware Valley, he caught 24 passes for 300 yards and six touchdowns, while making 22 tackles on defense. Listed at 6-foot-6, 210 pounds, Blake is a lengthy target who is tough to bring down. He had an interception return for a touchdown last year, as well as a forced fumble and fumble recovery.
Tyler Holzworth, Delaware Valley, Sr. – Holzworth is back at wide receiver following a junior campaign that saw him catch 40 balls for 580 yards and four touchdowns. His top games came against North Plainfield (5 receptions for 133 yards and a TD) and Metuchen (5 receptions for 144 yards and 2 TDs). He also forced a fumble, had two fumble recoveries and made an interception on defense.
Chris Solino, North Hunterdon, Jr. – The first quarterback to make the list, Solino looks to get North Hunterdon back to winning ways following a tough season last year. Solino will look to make an impact after finishing with 15 touchdowns as a sophomore. He will have a veteran offensive line to lead him this season.
Spencer Peck, North Hunterdon, Sr. OL/DL – Peck will be a player to watch up front in the county. Peck is a physical lineman at 6-foot-3, 295 pounds, and he’s a player to lead a veteran group up front.
Logan Conner, South Hunterdon, Sr. RB/DB – Conner was a force for South Hunterdon last season with 998 rushing yards and nine touchdowns. He also had 199 receiving yards and two receiving TDs. Conner ran for over 100 yards six times on the year, including the last four games. Against Middlesex last October, Conner finished with 153 yards on the ground on 15 carries with two touchdowns.
Cole McGourty, Voorhees, Sr. OL/LB – McGourty was a top tackler for Voorhees last season. He recorded double-digit tackles against Bound Brook and North Hunterdon, and he had sacks against North Hunterdon and Bernards. McGourty is experienced and should have another impact year for the Vikings this year.
Aidan Governali, Voorhees, Sr. RB – Governali recorded two interceptions last year on defense. He is opportunistic on that side of the ball and the senior will also be used in the backfield this year.
