Once they show their potential at a young age, all the hype comes rolling in. With all the pressure, hype, and expectations, here are five sophomores that are ready for anything that comes their way:
Devon Dampier Devon Dampier 6'0" | 190 lbs | QB Saguaro | 2023 State AZ , QB, 5’10″ 165lbs.
Pinnacle High School
Perhaps nobody has bigger shoes to fill that Dampier, reigning from the QB dominant Pinnacle High School. Dampier is an extremely skilled athlete, and will do it all for the Pinnacle offense. Dampier shows excellent throwing mechanics with good timing on every route. He can air it out if they need him to, and expect him to toss the long ball more often this season. On the ground, Dampier shows good speed, and a great ability to break out of pressure and deliver darts. It is possible that Dampier makes himself a bigger threat on the ground this season as well. He displayed good downfield vision and impressive maturity as a freshman last season. He will continue to grow physically and mentally, which gives him an enormous upside for D1 recruiting. Expect Dampier to establish himself as another elite Arizona QB this upcoming year.
Kyler Kasper Kyler Kasper 6'5" | 195 lbs | WR Williams Field | 2023 AZ , WR, 6’4″ 185lbs.
Williams Field High School
Kasper is already your prototypical outside receiver as a sophomore, and he will only continue to utilize his potential. He possesses good speed and runs crisp routes. He has a very impressive leaping ability which is key in his ability to track and high point balls. One of his best traits on film is the ability to get stacked over corners and get over the top of safeties. He uses his speed and size very well which gives him the advantage to create separation. He shows a good football IQ and makes it easy for QB’s to find him. Kasper 100% needs to be a big target on every college recruiters radar. In a talented Williams Field offense, look for Kapser to rack up big numbers for the next couple seasons.
C.J. Tiller, QB, 6’2″ 185lbs.
Williams Field High School
Tiller looks to step in and take over the QB1 role for Williams Field this year. Tiller possesses impressive arm strength with great accuracy. He shows good footwork by getting solid depth on 3 and 5 step drops, both under center and in shotgun. Tiller shows the traits to remain calm and poised in the pocket, and he has shown a very good ability to throw balls on a rope with good accuracy while rolling in both directions. He shows good timing and reads on quick routes which will be a big key this year with his talented receivers. Tiller has the opportunity to light it up with a lethal receiving core this season, and looks to capitalize on his talent and the talent around him.
Will Galvan, ATH., 5’8″, 150lbs.
Cactus High School
Galvan will enter the 2020 season with an entirely new role. He has been named the starting QB for week 1 after primarily playing on the defensive side of the ball last year as a freshman. Galvan is one of the most dynamic players out there, and has shown promise as a legitimate threat as a QB in pre-season drills and practice. As a safety and corner last season, Galvan showed that he will go head up with anyone. At corner, he was very physical in man coverage and mad it tough for receivers to get a release. He showed good recovery speed on deeper routes as well. He was used in some blitz packages as a safety and looked to be effective on film. Galvan is as versatile as they come, and will look to take on a massive role at Cactus this season.
Duce Robinson Duce Robinson 6'6" | 230 lbs | TE Pinnacle | 2023 State AZ , TE, 6’6″ 210lbs.
Pinnacle High School
Robinson, who was new to football last season, is a natural athlete. Robinson already holds an offer from Arizona State, and it will be interesting to see what other schools pull the trigger on him this season. Robinson is a massive, athletic kid, which makes it a nightmare to contain him. He has good speed and runs good routes with strong hands. Robinson has the potential to develop into your elite prototypical tight end. Robinson’s size makes him an instant D1 prospect, and his athleticism will only boost his potential. Look for Robinson to have a big role with Pinnacle this season.
