#1. Ankeny – 44.7545 (A+)
W, 48-6 @ Ankeny Centennial
A quick word: Despite all of the drama over whether star recruit Arland Bruce IV Arland Bruce IV 5'10" | 195 lbs | ATH Ankeny | 2021 State IA is eligible to play in Iowa, the Hawks were able to turn the sudden news around and destroy their rivals Centennial. Jase Bauer Jase Bauer 6'1" | 205 lbs | QB Ankeny | 2021 State IA looked excellent against the Jaguars, going 11/14 with 213 yards and 4 touchdowns. Both Kade Somers and Brody Brecht Brody Brecht 6'4" | 205 lbs | WR Ankeny | 2021 State IA made 3 catches and scored two touchdowns each. Colin Kadolph Colin Kadolph 6'0" | 190 lbs | RB Ankeny | 2022 State IA would be a star too, as he rushed for 160 yards of 16 carries and 3 touchdowns.
#2. Valley – 43.8440 (A+)
W, 40-20 vs Des Moines Roosevelt
A quick word: While they were first last week, a slow start against Roosevelt might’ve cost them the top spot this week. Jake Rubley Jake Rubley 6'3" | QB Highlands Ranch | 2021 State CO didn’t necessarily have an impressive debut statistically, going 11/24 for 146 yards, but throwing two touchdowns and getting one in on a sneak should reaffirm his success this season. His fellow future K-State teammate Jayden Williams Jayden Williams 5'11" | RB Heritage Hall | 2021 OK rushed for 113 yards and 2 TD’s of his own too, with Johnston transfer Cael Neisheim recording 5 catches for 106 yards and a touchdown too. Defensively, Nasir Washington Nasir Washington 6'3" | 260 lbs | DL Valley | 2021 State IA , the future Miami Redhawk, led the way with an impressive 11.5 tackles considering he plays as a defensive end.
#3. Dowling – 42.9011 (A)
W, 25-14 @ Indianola
A quick word: The Maroons were able to come away with a victory over the Indians on Friday. Zach Schwager moves from fullback to running back as a senior and ends up with 117 yards and 2 touchdowns against Indianola. CB Austin Klein pulls out a strong game as he records 2 interceptions, while Carson Kriegshauser records a team-high 7.5 tackles.
#4. Cedar Falls – 42.4351 (A)
W, 24-16 vs Dubuque Senior
A quick word: The Tigers have some questions to answer about their passing game, but their rushing game has proven to be pretty stellar. RB Ryan Ostrich Ryan Ostrich 5'9" | 180 lbs | RB Cedar Falls | 2021 IA , behind one of the classes top O-lines, rushed for 265 yards and 3 touchdowns in a win over the Rams. Meanwhile, OLB Elijah Mickey became a tackling machine, making 15 tackles for CF on Friday.
#5. Urbandale – 42.2974 (A-)
W, 50-34 vs Johnston
A quick word: The J-Hawks two-way stars looked strong on Friday taking on Johnston. Tucker Langenberg Tucker Langenberg 6'2" | 205 lbs | LB Urbandale | 2021 State IA rushed for 183 yards and 3 touchdowns while recording 3.5 tackles. Max Llewellyn Max Llewellyn 6'5" | 235 lbs | DL Urbandale | 2021 State IA meanwhile made 2 sacks in addition to making a 75-yard touchdown reception.
#6. Southeast Polk – 40.3857 (B+)
W, 21-10 @ Waukee
A quick word: Jaxon Dailey Jaxon Dailey 6'2" | 205 lbs | QB Southeast Polk | 2022 State IA throws two touchdowns to his RB Titus Christiansen Titus Christiansen 5'10" | 175 lbs | RB Southeast Polk | 2022 State IA and rushes one in himself on a sneak to get an 11-point victory over a really good Warrior team.
#7. Cedar Rapids Kennedy – 40.2714 (B+)
W, 35-34 OT @ Prairie
A quick word: The Cougars managed to slip away with a close overtime win off of a missed extra point by Prairie. The run game seems to still be the norm for Kennedy, as QB Max White Max White 5'10" | 190 lbs | ATH Kennedy | 2021 IA rushes for 236 yards and 4 touchdowns while primary RB and Prairie transfer DeMarcus Ray rushes for 114 yards and 1 touchdown of his own. Defensively, OLB Drew Bartels, MLB Reid Pakkebier, and SS Jake VanderSanden all tie for leading tackles with 8, including 3 TFL for Pakkebier.
#8. Davenport North – 39.3333 (B)
The Wildcats weren’t able to find an opponent this week, so they stay at the same grade they were at last week.
#9. Iowa City West – 39.1286 (B)
W, 27-0 vs Iowa City Liberty
A quick word: The Trojans move up the rankings after a decisive win over their new rivals. QB Marcus Morgan Marcus Morgan 6'2" | 180 lbs | QB Iowa City West | 2021 IA put in a pretty good performance, going 18/26 for 200 yards and 2 touchdowns, in addition to 75 rushing yards and a TD on the ground. His top receiver Grahm Goering Grahm Goering 6'2" | 190 lbs | WR Iowa City West | 2021 IA made 5 receptions for a team-high 93 yards and a touchdown too. On defense, Ian McAreavy made 7 tackles while Mo Simpson made a team-high 2.5 sacks against the Lightning too.
#10. Dubuque Hempstead – 38.9667 (B)
W, 24-7 vs Linn-Mar
A quick word: The Mustangs were able to get a big win over a playoff team from last season. Aidan Dunne Aidan Dunne 6'0" | 195 lbs | QB Hempstead | 2021 IA would lead the way in both passing and rushing, going 9/14 and 112 yards through the air, and 89 yards and 2 touchdowns from the ground. Jackson Ostrander was his top receiver by far, making 7 catches for 106 yards against the Lions.
#11. Dubuque Senior – 38.5286 (B)
L, 16-24 @ Cedar Falls
A quick word: The Rams showed a ton of promise standing up against Cedar Falls in Week 1. Cain McWilliams Cain McWilliams 5'10" | 170 lbs | RB Dubuque | 2021 IA carried Senior’s run game with 144 yards and 2 touchdowns while the passing game was getting adjusted for the losses they took in the offseason. Defensively the Rams completely shut down the Tigers passing game, only allowing 5 complete passes for a total of 12 yards. LB’s Seth Bullock Seth Bullock 6'3" | 210 lbs | LB Dubuque | 2021 IA and Nate Oswalt were their top tacklers, making 9 and 8.5 tackles respectively.
#12. Sioux City East – 38.5 (B)
W, 48-41 3OT @ Bishop Heelan
A quick word: The Black Raiders proved they could still hang with their longtime Catholic rivals Heelan after it took 3 overtimes to but away the Crusaders. RB Kyler Peterson became a difference-maker on offense, scoring 2 touchdowns through runs, and 2 more through receptions. But defensively is where East had Heelan’s number for the most part, with DaVares Whitaker, who moved back home to the Siouxland area from Jonesboro, Arkansas, making two interceptions, including one he took 98 yards to the house. Ethan Breyfogle, Bennett Vanderloo, Whitaker, and Taejon Jones all made 9 or more tackles and helped contribute to a defense that forced 6 turnovers against Heelan on Friday.
#13. Des Moines Roosevelt – 38.2714 (B-)
L, 20-40 @ Valley
A quick word: The Roughriders kept it close for the most part with the heavy-favorites in the state-title race, making the score 20-26 by the end of the third. RB Jaden Koger Jaden Koger 5'8" | 160 lbs | RB Roosevelt | 2021 IA looked impressive, making 135 rushing yards and a touchdown, to go along with 4 receptions and another touchdown too. NT Finn Claypool Finn Claypool 6'0" | 250 lbs | DL Dowling Catholic | 2021 IA ended up leading the defense with 5.5 tackles, with 3.5 tackles for loss, and Jakari Bradley made two fumble recoveries against Valley.
#14. Bettendorf – 38.0571 (B-)
L, 10-19 @ Washington
A quick word: Even though the Washington Demons made the 3A playoffs last season, seeing them defeat a perennial 4A powerhouse like Bettendorf is a major upset regardless. Tynan Numkena Tynan Numkena 6'2" | 205 lbs | WR Bettendorf | 2022 State IA ’s first start at QB didn’t go so well through the air, throwing 3 interceptions, but on the ground, he ended up leading the way with 109 yards and a touchdown run from 37 yards out. On the defensive side, LB Bradley Hill made 8.5 tackles and Jeffrey Speer made a team-high 2 sacks against Washington.
#15. Cedar Rapids Washington – 37.2619 (B-)
W, 55-0 vs Cedar Rapids Jefferson
A quick word: The Warriors are going to have to keep the momentum up from this victory if they want to stay this high in my rankings again. Henry Clymer Henry Clymer 6'3" | 195 lbs | QB Washington | 2021 IA threw 2 touchdowns, while Jabari Dobbs made 3 of the 5 rushing touchdowns for Wash in a dominating win over the J-Hawks.
