Remember, not one prospects gained any advantage during the pandemic, so every football player has already hit the ground running, searching for that edge.
Because many areas have not started to practice or play yet, all indication points to the fact that teams will get their opportunity sometime this fall.
Remember, even if you don’t opt in to play for a state title there is a better than average chance that they will play more games than if you opted in.
Because the seniors need the exposure and the tape for college, the urgency is greater than the underclassmen, but do not sleep on those 2022 and 2023 prospects. They are just as hungry.
Speaking of the 2023 class, today, we have five athletes who have the chance to turn heads some time this fall:
Cedric Baxter, RB, Orlando Edgewater. One of the most impressive young players in Florida, at 6-0, 195, this is a very gifted back who has just about every major college offering and watching his every move. From West Virginia to Penn State, Nebraska and UCF they all have been after him – and will continue to be on his trail – even though he committed to FSU back in July. This quality back has the attention of a nation. Will develop into one of the top five nationally by his senior year.

Mike Caldwell Jr., RB/CB, Miami St. Brendan. Another south Florida elite football talent that we have had the opportunity to spotlight in the past, but very few across the state have had the pleasure to see this young man do his thing on both sides of the ball. As a runner, he is explosive, fast and is tough to bring down. Has tremendous vision and instincts, and as the years move along, he will get better and better. Also a very impressive talent on the defensive side of the ball as well. Quality cornerback and excellent open field tackler. This is certainly a future star we will stay on top of – every step of the way.

Jermaine Hardy, LB/RB, Palm Beach Lakes. At 6-2, 195, this is a talented young man who performed at the junior varsity level in 2019, but if you watch his instincts and athletic ability, you can see why many are looking for some big things from this impressive talent – on both sides of the ball. Whether it’s as a linebacker, where he is learning to read plays – or on offensive side – a place he looks very comfortable running the ball, this program has something very special for the future. This year could be a huge season, once the season begins for the Rams.

Mark Hinkell, QB, Eau Gallie. Makes the move this year from Satellite where he had a tremendous season. This is a gifted football talent who has a strong and accurate arm, and as he matures and continues to perform year-round, you can guarantee that he will be very special. He will also develop into a solid runner as well, and that is something that will thrust him into the spotlight – statewide during this season and into the future. Definitely a football prospect to keep on your radar.

Devin Williams, DL/OL, Brooksville Hernando. One of the prospects that everyone was talking about during the off-season, this is certainly the next great football talent in the region – and will get plenty of attention. Coming off a freshmen season that saw this “man-child” make such an impact that comparisons to some of the greats began to surface. In addition to being a defensive force, his ability to pave the way on offense didn’t go unnoticed. This young man is for real!
