That is the position – along with receiver – that has put the Sunshine State on the map, as more prospects who play those positions have made it to the NFL and enjoyed tremendous careers.
As the Class of 2022 is starting to unfold, there are many positions that are grabbing the spotlight, but as usual, none more than the secondary, where there are elite performers who are being recruited by just about every school in the nation.
From the Panhandle to south Florida, defensive backs are impressive and game changing.
As we continue to go through the Top 100 plus players for the Class of 2022, we will spotlight every position. Today, we bring you five defensive backs to keep an eye on this season.
Tre Donaldson Tre Donaldson 6'2" | 185 lbs | DB Tallahassee Florida | 2022 State FL , S, 6-1.5, 190, Tallahassee Florida High. After watching this tremendous talent last year as a sophomore, there is no getting around the fact that he is as good as you get. Even during his sophomore season, he showed that if you are going to throw the ball in his direction, you better be ready for a fight. This is someone with amazing ball skills and tremendous field awareness. He has a knack of making plays all over the field. Several colleges, including hometown FSU, are watching his every move – and after a trip to the 3A state finals last season – he is ready for more.

Earl Little Jr. Earl Little Jr. 6'0" | 170 lbs | DB Plantation American Heritage | 2022 State FL , CB, 6-0 170, Plantation American Heritage. The saying that the “apple does not fall far from the tree” certainly does apply here. Following in the rather large footsteps of his father, who played the position at the University of Miami and in the NFL, has been a huge influence on his career. This impressive talent is also coached by former NFL star secondary performers Pat Surtain and Daryl Porter, so he certainly has plenty of reference points along the way. Colleges from all over the nation continue to offer and watch this young man’s progress.

Camron “Cam” Miller, CB, 6-0, 170, Fernandina Beach. In the northern reaches of Florida – not far from the Georgia state line – here is a prospect that is turning heads with his play in the defensive secondary as well as at quarterback. A super athletic talent who has speed and athleticism, and while he sparks his team with his play on offense, every college in America sees him in the secondary for years to come. Yet another gifted young man who is still a work in progress.

Jaheim Singletary Jaheim Singletary 6'1" | 170 lbs | DB Jacksonville Lee | 2022 State FL , CB, 6-1, 170, Jacksonville Lee. No matter what class or where it is in this country, you would be hard pressed to find a better football talent than this young man. At 6-2, 180-pounds, this is certainly the premier cornerback in his class. Someone who is tough to throw on – and his open field tackling skills are simply as good as you get. This is the complete defensive back, who also makes it happen on offense as a more than capable receiver with length and tremendous hands. Top five in this state and easily top 20 nationally, heading into the season!

JaCorey Thomas, S, 6-1, 185, Orlando Boone. Yet another two-way standout, who is coming off a tremendous sophomore year and was very much looking forward to his junior season. This is a standout who checks all the boxes, and no matter if it’s coming up with a huge defensive play or interception – or separating himself as a receiver, the Braves have someone very special who they can rely on to give them a major lift. Another elite prospect in the state who has already shown what he can do on a national level.
