Caveat: This list does not include Ruidoso TE Grant Oberheu Grant Oberheu 6'3" | LB Ruidoso | 2021 State NM , arguably the top returning player in Class 4A, as we limited the ranking strictly to wide receivers. However, one of his teammates did make the list (see below).
Adam Aguilera Adam Aguilera 5'8" | 160 lbs | WR Lovington | 2022 State NM / Isaac Hinson Isaac Hinson 6'0" | 185 lbs | WR Lovington | 2022 State NM , Lovington: The top wide receiver duo in Class 4A combined for 73 receptions, 1,237 yards and 15 touchdowns in 2019 when both Aguilera and Hinson were sophomores. They make Lovington legitimate contenders for the Class 4A crown, not just for the coming spring season but the 2021 fall campaign as well. Both these guys will likely be playing at the next level.
Raymundo Alcantar, Bloomfield: The alpha dog on a talented Bloomfield WR corps. Alcantar must fill the large shoes of the graduated Noah Gurule, who led Class 4A with 67 receptions for 1,229 yards in 2019. Alcantar had 35 receptions for 599 yards and 12 touchdowns last season. The fact one-third of his receptions went for TDs shows how much of a threat he is in the red zone.
Kellan Gehres, Albuquerque Academy: As a freshman in 2019, Gehres caught 34 passes for 554 yards and 6 touchdowns. He’s one f the top 2023 prospects in the state for a reason. How good will he be by the time he’s a senior in 2022? Scary good. Future is bright for AA with QB AJ Rivera (2023), Gehres and several other standout young players.
Andre King, Shiprock: Shiprock typically doesn’t get a whole lotta love from fans and the media, but King is worth checking out. King had 32 receptions for 609 yards and 8 TDs last season as he averaged 19.0 yards per receptions.
Xavier Otero, Ruidoso: Oberheu has been offered by New Mexico State for a reason, but he’s not the only pass catching threat for Ruidoso. Otero was the perfect complement to Oberheu in 2019 with 32 receptions for 415 yards and 3 TDs. He’ll continue in that role in the spring.
Honorable Mention: Dason Davis (Portales); Angel Polanco (Taos), Ethan Beevers (Bloomfield), Bryce Perez (Bloomfield), Mark McIntosh Mark McIntosh 5'11" | WR Albuquerque Academy | 2022 State NM (Albuq. Academy).
