Here are a few top QB performances from week 3 of the high school football season.
Bryce Archie Bryce Archie 6'3" | 190 lbs | QB McEachern | 2022 State GA – McEachern
You don’t see many performances like the one Archie put on rival Marietta on Friday night. In a 49-28 win over the reigning state champions, the 2022 gunslinger was 22/22 for 224 yards and three touchdowns. He didn’t throw a single incompletion the entire night. He didn’t fill up the state sheet with yards, but he was perfect through the air, something that rarely ever happens at the high school level. He was accurate, made smart decisions with the football, but more importantly, he put the ball in the end-zone and led his team to victory. There’s been plenty of hype around the new McEachern QB for the last several months and he exceeded expectations this weekend. After that performance, look for some college programs to start giving him a hard look.
Dylan Lonergan Dylan Lonergan 6'2" | 200 lbs | QB Brookwood | 2023 State GA – Brookwood
After an epic OT win against Dacula in the season opener, Brookwood’s sophomore QB led the Broncos to another 4th quarter come from behind victory on the road against a tough Walton defense. He started the game slower than he would have liked, but Lonergan got into a rhythm in the 2nd half, showing off his legs in the process. The Broncos were down double digits in the 4th quarter, but stormed back to win the game thanks to a 60-yard TD run by Lonergan late in the game. He finished the game going 22/33 for 310 yards and 3 TDs. He also rushed for 122 yards and one touchdown, which sealed the victory. Less than 24 hours after another comeback win, Lonergan picked up offers from Georgia and Oregon.
AJ Swann – Cherokee
He didn’t light up the stat sheet like the other may have, but the big 6-foot-3 200-pounder led his Cherokee team to a major win over powerhouse Rome. The Rome Wolves are always one of the state’s best programs in the 6A, but the Warriors, led by Swann, came away with the 21-15 upset. The Wolves are known for having an excellent defense, but Swann was able to throw for 184 yards and two important touchdowns in the victory. He showed impressive accuracy, completing 15 passes in just 22 attempts. Most importantly, the junior took care of the football and didn’t many any game-changing mistakes. The Warriors are now 3-0 with impressive wins over Rome, Carver, and Sequoyah.
