We’re debuting a new feature this week and will continue throughout the 2020 season. It’s the top ten round up. Every week, we put out our top ten games across the state of Oklahoma. In this feature, we’ll look back at those games and see how both teams did. Stay tuned every Saturday when this article drops.
1) OWASSO 32, BROKEN ARROW 6
Last year, this was the game that vaulted Owasso into the top spot in 6A-D1 and solidified them as the favorite to win it all. It’s hard to argue that’s the case again this season after the Rams went on the road and absolutely dismantled the Tigers. Leading the way for the Rams was sophomore quarterback

, who has established himself as the Ram quarterback going forward. He completed 80% of his passes for nearly 200 yards and a pair of touchdowns to fellow sophomore

. The Ram defense kept Broken Arrow’s offense in check and will now go into district play as the heavy favorite to repeat as state champ.
2) BISHOP KELLEY 35, BISHOP McGUINNESS 21
Bishop Kelley won their annual rivalry meeting with Bishop McGuinness on Friday night to improve to 3-0 on the season. The Comets scored twice in the first three minutes of the second half to take the lead and would never look back. Quarterback Gabe Harju threw three touchdowns,

ran for another and was an absolute beast on both sides of the ball in the win. Bishop McGuinness had a few injuries on the offensive side of the ball that somewhat limited what they were able to do at times in the second half. However, it was Kelley’s blend of the pass and running game that put the Comets over the top.
3) CARL ALBERT 21, DEL CITY 14
This game lived up to the hype that we had around it going into the rivalry clash. We figured that it would be a low scoring defensive battle as both teams have strong defenses and both teams rely on the running game. We weren’t expecting to see a shootout on Friday night. The Titans were led by their senior quarterback

, who improved to 43-1 as the Titans’ starting quarterback. Harris had a great night throwing and running the ball. But it was the defense that had to make a stop in the end. They had four straight stops as Del City had a chance to send the game to overtime in the final minute.
4) STILLWATER 62, MUSTANG 21
Star running back

needed 60 yards to eclipse 6,000 career rushing yards. All he needed was one carry to get that, and then some. He went 80-yards for a touchdown on the first play of the game. That was the first of a handful of touchdowns and he would finish with over 250 yards on the night. He continues to climb the all time rushing charts. The concern going into the game was Stillwater might be looking ahead to next week’s 1 VS 2 showdown with Bixby. That wasn’t a problem. They led Mustang 42-7 at halftime. They made quick work of the Broncos and now we can start hyping up next week’s title rematch.
5) WEATHERFORD 41, EL RENO 14
After an absolute shootout to open their season with Kingfisher, Weatherford’s defense showed up in a big way as the Eagles crushed El Reno 41-14. The Eagles were dominant from the start and just continued to build and build on their lead. The Eagles led 20-0 at halftime and just continued to roll in the second half. The defense was certainly the story as they held El Reno in check all night after giving up 49 points to Kingfisher last week. The Eagles will make the trip out to Woodward next week before opening up district play. For El Reno, they have next week off where they’ll look to regroup after back to back losses.
6) HILLDALE 40, CHECOTAH 0
It was one thing for Hilldale to shutout a struggling Will Rogers program last week. But it’s another to shutout a program like Checotah and light up the scoreboard while doing it. Hilldale’s 40-0 win over Checotah is certainly an impressive one as the Hornets have opened up their 2020 season with back to back shutouts. They’ll face off with Oologah next week before a brutal district opener against defending state champion Poteau. The Hornets will certainly grab headlines with their back to back shutouts as the defense has looked good. But the offense shouldn’t be overlooked as they’ve been rolling in the first couple weeks.
7) JENKS 28, UNION 0
The only other team that has an argument as being a serious title contender in 6A-D1 is Jenks. The Trojans have looked great this season and once again flexed their muscles in a rivalry win over Union. The Trojans bounced back from last week’s close loss to Bixby with a rivalry blowout. While Union struggled to get anything going and dealt with penalties, Jenks flourished. The Trojans now go into a bye week and prepare for a tough district that features Broken Arrow and Edmond Santa Fe, among others. However, you can’t help but wonder if we’re on now at the start of a collision course for a state title rematch between Jenks and Owasso.
8) CUSHING 27, PERKINS-TRYON 7
We have mentioned a few sophomores in this feature and we have another one that you’ll need to remember moving forward. Wide receiver
Camden Crooks

is a name to circle when it comes to 2023 playmakers. He had a great freshman season and has picked up right where he left off. In a big win over Perkins-Tryon, Crooks was outstanding. He is a dynamic wide receiver and showed off the skills in that department when he caught a pair of touchdowns and finished with over 200 yards receiving. He also had an impact on the defensive side of the ball. He finished with ten tackles and also had an interception in the win.
9) STIGLER 40, EUFAULA 22
Stigler continues to make a statement that they’ll be a team to be reckoned with in Class 3A. This is the second straight week where they’ve faced a top ten team in 2A and it’s the second straight blowout victory for the Panthers. Stigler has certainly grabbed our attention and they should be in the mix when it comes to the best teams in Class 3A. They’ll take next week off before opening up district play against Seminole. But we can’t help but look ahead to a potential district championship showdown in week ten against defending state champ Lincoln Christian. Lot of football to be played between now and then, but that would be good.
10) PUTNAM CITY NORTH 39, PIEDMONT 3
We tried to tell you before the season that Class 6A-D2 is deeper than it’s ever been before. Putnam City North proved that on Friday night as a team that’s on the bottom half of the 6A-D2 top ten and just dominated Piedmont. The Panthers looked great in the win over the Wildcats, who moved up to #2 in the 5A rankings last week. Sophomore quarterback

has begun his varsity career with a near flawless performance. Piedmont has a tough defense and the young sophomore threw three touchdowns in the win. While a lot of the 6A-D2 talk is centered around Bixby and Stillwater, keep an eye on the Panthers this fall.
