The 2020 season is in full swing across the state of Oklahoma. And while the season gets going, recruiting is as important as ever. As of right now, Oklahoma’s 2021 class has 30 prospects currently committed. The 2021 class appears to be deep, especially on the defensive side of the ball. Every Wednesday, we’ll spotlight five prospects that are still deciding their college futures.

has been one of the top quarterbacks in 6A-D1 since his impact season as a sophomore. While his junior season was somewhat limited due to nagging injuries, Wolfe has picked up right where he left off and is one of the top dual-threat quarterbacks in the state. Wolfe does a good job throwing the football and really distributing the ball all over the field. He doesn’t lock in on one receiver and does a good job making different throws. But as a dual-threat QB, he also has the ability to beat defenses on the ground. He isn’t a run-first quarterback like some others in the senior class. Wolfe is looking to beat you with his arm as long as he can. But if he has to tuck it and run, watch out.
Gage Laney – Defensive Back – Owasso
Owasso’s defense was so strong last season and they appear to be strong once again this year. The Rams look like the heavy favorite to repeat as state champion. Senior defensive back Gage Laney is a prospect that should be getting more notice, especially after what he’s been able to do in the first few weeks of the season. Laney and this Owasso defense has been outstanding and he’s just one part of a defensive unit that has some absolute studs. However, we love his game as a safety prospect that can do a variety of things. He’s excellent in pass coverage and can get from point A to point B in a hurry. Laney also has the ability to step up and help in run support when needed. The closer he gets to the line of scrimmage, the more dangerous he is.

. You can make the argument that he might be the fastest rising prospect entering his senior season as he’s made the transition from being an athlete playing offense and defense to a DE prospect. His game on offense is nice but when you watch what he’s able to do on the defensive side of the ball, you can’t help but wonder what he would be if that was all he did. He’s certainly growing into that role and still has room to grow. But when you talk about a prospect that has a very high ceiling, is just scratching the surface of what he could be, you’re probably talking about Maytubby. He’s gotten some D1 interest over the last few months and that’s no surprise.

– Wide Receiver – Stillwater
Every year, we see prospects that are criminally underrated when it comes to their recruitment. The more we cover it and the more in-depth we go, the more prospects that check that box stand out to us. Arguably the most underrated wide receiver in this 2021 class is Stillwater’s

. The only reason Brown isn’t considered one of the top playmakers at receiver is his size. He’s under 6-foot and therefore undersized. We don’t buy it. Put on the tape and you’ll see why size doesn’t matter when you’re watching Brown do his thing. He’s so quick and shifty that bigger defensive backs or linebackers can’t catch him. He’s one of the fastest route runners in the state and is so dangerous in a variety of ways. He’s simply a dynamic playmaker.

made the transition from 3A football at Lincoln Christian to 6A-D1 ball at Jenks look as smooth as possible. Ward not only led the Trojans in tackles last season but was among the best in the state at the category. Simply put, Ward was all over the field for the Trojans and has a very strong game as a linebacker prospect. He doesn’t have prototypical size and that’s a big reason why he’s on the board but you can’t deny his production and what he’s put on tape. Ward is an absolute terror on the defensive side of the ball. He has a high IQ and usually knows where the play is going as a very instinctual player.
