Underclassmen Spotlight: Week Four
At many points this summer we questioned if we’d even have a season, but here we are somehow at the end of non-district play. It has not been a normal or perfect season by any means, but we are just as excited to see the playoff race start to take form in the next few weeks. So far this season, we have seen a lot of familiar names do what they do best, but we have also seen the rise of a few underclassmen. They have come from seemingly nowhere and many of them are towards the top in the state in their respective statistical categories. Here are a few underclassmen who have come out firing in 2020.
Kaden Jones Kaden Jones 6'4" | 260 lbs | DL Mustang | 2023 State OK – DL Mustang – Class of 2023
Kaden Jones Kaden Jones 6'4" | 260 lbs | DL Mustang | 2023 State OK is a defensive tackle for Mustang and he may be one of the best prospects in the class in terms of his ceiling and potential. Jones has great size at 6’4″ 240 Lbs and has shown some real division 1 potential this season. His combination of size and power has been on display all year as he has been great at firing off the line and staying low against offensive lineman. Additionally, Jones has shown some good speed and a high motor to chase down runners late in the play. Jones does not currently have any offers but that will certainly change soon.
Blaze Berlowitz Blaze Berlowitz 6'3" | 195 lbs | QB Cushing | 2023 State OK – QB Cushing – Class of 2023
Last week we highlighted Cushing star WR Camden Crooks Camden Crooks 6'0" | 190 lbs | WR Cushing | 2023 State OK , so it only felt appropriate that we gave his QB some love as well. Through 3 games this season, Blaze has produced on every level. He has over 700 yards passing, 9 touchdowns, and only 3 picks while completing around 72% of his passes. Blaze checks nearly every box for a QB at the college level with his combination of size, efficiency, mobility, and arm strength, so it is only a matter of time before Blaze gets the recognition he deserves at the next level.
Jaiden Carroll Jaiden Carroll 5'10" | 180 lbs | RB Jenks | 2023 State OK – RB Booker T Washington – Class of 2023
Coming off a freshman season where he broke out in a big way, Carroll has not disappointed so far in 2020. He has shown the same vision and unique burst that he busted onto the scene with last year, in fact, he might look even more decisive and dynamic than last season. Carroll is going to have quite the resume in terms of accolades and statistics by the time he graduates in 2023. Whoever lands him at the next level will be getting a true difference-maker on the ground.
Brandt Haag Brandt Haag 6'5" | 305 lbs | OL Bishop McGuinness | 2023 State OK – OL Bishop McGuinness – Class of 2023
Haag is another lineman in this class of 2023 with exciting potential. So far this season, he has been an absolute mauler in the run game. No matter who it is lined up in front of him he seems to drive them to the ground or deep down the field. Additionally, he has shown some very violent hands to drive people back and some quick feet to keep up with edge rushers in the passing game. He is pretty developed for his age so it makes you wonder how he’ll look as a senior for the Fighting Irish.
Jakeb Snyder Jakeb Snyder 5'10" | Defensive Back Bixby | 2023 OK – DB/WR Bixby – Class of 2023
Snyder is an athlete for Bixby who has made the most of his playing time this year. He always seems to find himself around the ball on defense and is not afraid to come downhill and deliver a hit. Snyder also has some great ball skills as he has an interception on defense and has been a key contributor to Bixby’s offense as a receiver with a few catches and a couple of touchdowns. On a team full of superstars, you can’t overlook guys like Jakeb Snyder Jakeb Snyder 5'10" | Defensive Back Bixby | 2023 OK who may not light up the stat sheet every week, but definitely contribute in a big way on both sides of the ball at a young age. This young man should have a bright future with the Spartans ahead of him.
