While there were a myriad of Corky Kell classic games, one of the most shocking games was North Gwinnett vs McEachern. While both schools have very reputable, and successful football programs, nobody expected North Gwinnett to win as big as they did. The team found themselves with a final score of 35-7.
In this win, one player in particular stood out. That player was Clemson LB commit, Barrett Carter Barrett Carter 6'1" | 220 lbs | LB North Gwinnett | 2021 State GA . Carter did a bit of everything in this game, and showed his versatility, and ability to be effective on both offense, and defense. While on offense, Carter scored a rushing TD off of a direct snap, and also managed to throw a jump pass for a TD.
On the defensive side of the ball, Carter shined, just as he was supposed to. In doing so, Carter continued to show the ability to defend the run, and play the pass at an elite level. With this, he continued to move sideline to sideline very well. He even found himself in position to break up a pass as he displayed his ability to drop into coverage, which Clemson coaches are certainly excited about.
Perhaps, the reason Carter wins the game ball for this match up is due to the fact that he not only played at a high, and consistent level against good competition, but he dominated while doing so. Carter also scored on a 78 yard pick six, which showed his ability to be the total package.
All in all, Carter totaled 8 tackles, with 2 of those tackles being for a loss. With this, he accounted for 3 TD’s, 2 of which he scored himself on a run, and pick six. Carter showed the ability to do a little bit of everything, giving North Gwinnett fans something to be excited about for this season. As we get deeper into the season, look for Carter and his team to build on top of this momentum.
