This game had its share of big plays for both football programs, and it also displayed flashes of various talented football players that could play at the next level. When the dust settled, Valdosta found itself on top with a final score of 28-25. This close win is even more impressive due to the fact that Warner Robins is coming off of its third season in a row in which the program found themselves in the state championship game.
During this match-up, one player stood out more than the others. The game ball for this match-up is awarded to Valdosta QB, Jake Garcia. Garcia, who is committed to USC finished at 22-35, for 340 yards, 2TD’s, and 1 interception. This performance comes after Garcia’s transfer to Valdosta, from the state of California, due to his desire to play another high school football season before he enters into college next season.
The game against Warner Robins was undoubtedly close, and what separated Garcia’s performance from other players is the fact that he led Valdosta to a win in the 2nd half of the game, with 2 crucial TD passes. These passes included a 45 yard bomb, that was followed by a 2-point conversion, as well as a 56 yard TD pass. Perhaps his most clutch play came in the 4th quarter, as he completed a 40 yard catch and run to Javonte Sherman Javonte Sherman 6'1" | 170 lbs | WR Valdosta | 2021 State GA that set Valdosta up for an eventual game winning field goal.
Not only did Garcia prove why he is one of the top ranked QB’s in the country, but he showed how well he can adjust without much time spent in a specific system. This is without a doubt a good sign for USC fans, who are hoping that he can translate to the next level, and find a way to make a difference for the Trojans. If Garcia can continue to play at this level for the Wildcats, you can expect to see Valdosta in the state championship conversation once again.
