This match up unfortunately did not go the way they would have hoped it to have gone. By the end of the game, the Chargers found themselves on the losing end, 34-14. The worst part about the loss is that it was their second in a row.
While they found ways to compete against Crisp County, their loss came down to a combination of mistakes that they made throughout the game. Perhaps one of the most devastating things for the Chargers throughout the game was the three interceptions thrown by their QB, Philip Massengale. As a result, Massengale saw his second lowest Quarterback rating of the season, at 49.8%.
Perhaps one of the things that hurt Eagle’s Landing the most was their poor special teams play, which constantly put Crisp County in a good position to score, and gain momentum. With this, the Chargers also struggled due to the fact that they had plenty of players, including their starting RB, Maquise Palmer, that was not able to play due to contact tracing from the Coronavirus.
Even though the season will not get easier for the Chargers, they can be thankful that time may heal some of their wounds. Particularly, it may help their situation with players that are currently out due to tracing. As the season goes on, they will lean heavily on players such as Bryson Estes Bryson Estes 6'3" | 295 lbs | OL Eagle's Landing Christian Academy | 2021 State GA , Jelan Pearson, and Kaleb Anthony Kaleb Anthony 6'0" | 175 lbs | DB ELCA | 2021 GA for success. Following this game, the Chargers will go on to play at Pierce County on October 2nd.
Crisp County on the other hand, has a lot to look forward to. So far, they are undefeated on the season, and players such as their LB, Christopher Paul Christopher Paul 6'1" | 235 lbs | LB Crisp County | 2021 State GA Jr., have had a decent season up to this point. They are ranked as the number 3 team in Class 3A, and are capable of going up from here. They will hope to continue to build upon this win, as they go on to play a relatively winnable schedule for the rest of the year. We expect them to be able to compete with some of the best teams in 3A when it’s all said and done.
