While the Packers came away with a 24-10 win over the Wildcats, it certainly did not come easy. Throughout the game, both teams engaged in a heated defensive battle, in which the Packers proudly defeated their previous coach, Rush Propst.
During the game, neither offense had a superb night. Each team witnessed their starting QB’s, Amari Jones (Valdosta), and Xavier Williams (Coqluitt) throw two interceptions. While defensive players for Valdosta, such as Josh Hill, and Jacquez Mcgowan, managed to have decent games, and created turnovers for their team, it was not enough to stop the Packers. To put it simply, Colquitt managed to turn some of their defensive wins into points. Gamal Wallace was a perfect example of this as he scored on a 20 yard pick six during the beginning of the game.
Throughout the game, Colquitt found ways to make plays. Not only did their defense continue to make key stops, but players such as Daeviunte Williams found ways to get to Amari Williams. His sack was crucial for the Packers, but the pressure throughout the game showed by the defensive line was also huge. Valdosta also found themselves outmatched in the special teams game, as Colquitt blocked two punts, one of which led to the first score for the Packers.
While the Wildcats found themselves on the losing end of a much anticipated match up against a great team, they can expect to build on this game. Moving forward, they will go on to play teams such as Lowndes, Westside, and Houston County, which will be great competition, but are definitely beatable. Colquitt County on the other hand will hope to add on to their 2-0 record, and try to send their star Seniors, Lemeke Brockington Lemeke Brockington 5'11" | 185 lbs | WR Colquitt County | 2021 State GA , and Omar Daniels Omar Daniels 6'0" | 170 lbs | DB Colquitt County | 2021 State GA off in the right way.
