There have been a lot of unknowns this year with operating through the pandemic, but there have been a ton of standout performances throughout the state. Let’s take a look at five standout players at the midway point of the season.
Audric Estime Audric Estime 6'1" | RB St. Joe's Montvale | 2021 State NJ , St. Joseph (Mont.): Estime, a Michigan State commit, has continued to be a force for St. Joseph. He has rushed for 665 yards in three games and has found the end zone eight times on the ground. He also has a receiving score. Estime had a sack against Bergen Catholic in the season opener, also rushing for 176 yards on 18 carries with three TDs. The St. Joseph workhorse went off for 286 yards on 26 carries with four scores in the team’s win over Seton Hall Prep. In last week’s game against top-ranked St. Peter’s Prep, Estime finished with 203 yards on 25 carries with a TD. His numbers should continue to be at this level the remainder of the season.
Marco Lainez Marco Lainez 6'3" | 225 lbs | QB The Hun School | 2023 State NJ , Hun: Lainez, the quarterback at the Hun School, has thrown for 820 yards in three games. Outside of a tough loss to Cherokee last week, he has been extremely efficient. He has completed about 77 percent of his passes. He has averaged 19.1 yards per pass, has thrown nine touchdowns and he has only three interceptions.
Harry Boland, Caldwell: Boland has been a tackling machine through three games. He has 49 tackles and a forced fumble. Boland had 17 tackles apiece against Verona and Glen Ridge, and 15 tackles against Weequahic.
Aaron Forde, Ewing: Forde has seven sacks through three games this season for Ewing, which leads the state. He had three sacks against Steinert and two sacks apiece in games against Nottingham and Hopewell Valley. Forde also has seven tackles for loss and 28 tackles overall on the season.
Zahir Abdus-Salaam Zahir Abdus-Salaam 5'9" | RB Union City | 2021 State NJ , Union City: Abdus-Salaam has shown he can get it done in a variety of ways. He has rushed for six touchdowns, caught another and had two punt returns for scores through Union City’s first stretch of games. He has also made an interception on defense. He has run for at least 100 yards in three games.
