QB Matthew McClelland, Arete Prep, 2022, 6’1” 160 lbs.
In a one-point loss to Glendale Prep, McClelland did it all on both sides of the ball. He had 616 yards of total offense with 326 yards passing and 290 yards rushing. He accumulated seven total touchdowns with three passing and four rushing including a 71 scrambling TD. On defense he had 11 total tackles with one TFL and one interception. He’s a very good natural athlete and football player that can be a game breaker with his arm or his legs. Look for him to continue to put up big numbers throughout the season.
RB Eli Sanders Eli Sanders 6'1" | 190 lbs | RB Chandler | 2021 State AZ , Chandler, 2021, 6’0” 185 lbs.
The Boise State commit is one of the top athletes on a Chandler team that is worth every bit of their #5 ranking in the country by MaxPreps. The #1 RB in AZ by PrepRedzone carried the ball just 12 times in the first half rushing for 213 yards and four touchdowns in a lopsided 64-0 win over Pinnacle. He scored on plays of 4, 15, 67, and 95 yards. Sanders is a great all around back that can be effective in both the running and passing game with his combination of size, speed, and strength. He currently holds offers from Boise State, Arizona, Arizona State, Nevada, New Mexico State, and Northern Arizona.
ATH Zach Hammett Zach Hammett 5'8" | 185 lbs | RB River Valley | 2022 State AZ , River Valley, 2022, 5’8” 170 lbs.
In a 56-0 win over Kingman Academy, Hammett scored five total touchdowns on only nine touches. Six of those touches were rushing, picking up 75 yards and three touchdowns then returning two punt returns for touchdowns. He’s a smooth athlete that has great burst and acceleration in space. His quickness and lateral agility allow him to make defenders miss in the open field. Has the ability to be an explosive playmaker at multiple positions.
WR Savion Boone, Fountain Hills, 2022, 5’10” 155 lbs.
Boone was continuously able to get behind the Florence secondary racking up 12 receptions for 275 yards and five TDs including the game-winner with two minutes left in a 48-47 comeback win. He also had an interception to lock in the win at the end of the game. He has an explosive first step off the LOS and a quick release that allows him to slip by coverage and stretch the defense vertically using his speed. He’s smooth in and out of his breaks on short/intermediate routes creating separation and space to make a play on the ball. He showed good ability to adjust to the ball in the air throughout the night.
LB Wyatt Zellner, Gilbert, 2021, 6’0” 205 lbs.
Through just two games Zellner has 38 total tackles after 15 solo tackles, eight assists, and a forced fumble against Mesa. He made plays all over the field in both the running game and in coverage all night. He plays fast and physical but is calculated in his movements and always puts himself in the right position to make plays. He’s an every down LB that is quick to read and react and can be effective in coverage or in the run game. Colleges will love his high motor and ability to play sideline to sideline.
DL Dante Smith Dante Smith 6'2" | 290 lbs | OL Desert Ridge | 2021 State AZ , Desert Ridge, 2021, 6’2” 290 lbs.
Dante had an unusual stat line for a defensive lineman when he picked off two passes in a 34-14 win over Mountain Ridge. One he made a great one-handed play on a screen pass that he returned 20 yards for a touchdown before it was called back for an illegal block and another when he was able to pull in a broken field goal attempt that turned into a pass. He is one of the top two-way lineman in the state with his strong 6’2” 290 lb. frame and plus athleticism/mobility. He’s explosive off the ball and plays extremely violent and physical. He has six offers to his name including New Mexico, New Mexico State, North Dakota, Abilene Christian, Northern Arizona, and Northern Colorado.
DB Jordan Ginnis Jordan Ginnis 5'10" | 170 lbs | ATH Saguaro | 2022 AZ , Saguaro, 2022, 5’10” 180 lbs.
Ginnis flashed his versatility and play making ability filling the stat sheet in several categories in Saguaro’s first game of the season against Brophy. He had five tackles, one sack, one pass break up, and one interception that he returned 52 yards for a touchdown. He has a high football IQ and plays extremely well with his eyes diagnosing plays quickly with little wasted movement. He plays fast and physical and understands his position/job to put himself in position to make big time plays. He’s a very good athlete with tons of potential and upside.
