Now, the Bobcats take on West Delaware in a Class 3A second round contest.
For Garrett Baumhover, the game presents another chance to challenge himself and prove his skills on the gridiron.
“It feels good to be going into the postseason feeling confident in ourselves as a group,” Baumhover said. “It’s changed with just having the mentality it’s win-or-go-home and anything can happen.
“So we have to be at our best.”
Baumhover has completed over 58 percent of his passes this year for 1,997 yards with 23 touchdowns and just three interceptions. He sports a quarterback rating of 141.1 and has added 159 yards and two scores on the ground.
In the win over Waverly-Shell Rock, Baumhover threw four touchdowns and had 194 yards on just 12 pass attempts – completing eight of them. Western Dubuque, which won a state title last year, jumped out to a 14-0 lead and were in control up 27-7 at the half.
For Baumhover, a Week 2 thrilling 40-37 win over Dubuque Hempstead helped define the year and set the tone, along with creating a life-long memory. He was 19-for-33 for 447 yards with five touchdowns that night.
“It was a really exciting experience to be part of,” he said.
