The 6-foot-3, 235-pound Oberheu verbally committed to NM State on Oct. 1. He is expected to sign with the Aggies during the early signing period in December.
Oberheu told Prep Redzone New Mexico that the “uncertainty” surrounding the spring high school football season convinced him to forego his senior campaign and prepare for his future in Las Cruces.
Oberheu was also offered by Eastern New Mexico and Macalester College. He is ranked No. 15 on our list of the top 2021 prospects in the state of New Mexico.
After most of its 2020 schedule was wiped out by the COVID-19 pandemic, New Mexico State plans to play football in the spring. Oberheu says he will spend the spring semester learning the Aggies offense and getting physically ready for the 2021 season in the fall.
