Continue ReadingIt was evident that Brookwood’s football team would get off to a good start with a strong season when they defeated Dacula 40-34 in 4OT during week one. Since then, the Broncos have gone on to win all of their other games up to this point, and have found themselves 6-0. Out of these 6 wins, they put up at least 40 points in 5 of these games. These wins were over Dacula, Walton, North Paulding, Marietta, and Mountain View. The only game in which they did not score over 40 points was in the Broncos win against Mill Creek, which was 24-13.
Perhaps the story of the season so far, besides the 6-0 record, is the high level of QB play from Dylan Lonergan Dylan Lonergan 6'2" | 200 lbs | QB Brookwood | 2023 State GA . Lonergan, who is a 4 star QB that has been picking up plenty of Power 5 offers within his Sophomore campaign, leads the entire state in passing with 1,774 yards. With this, he has a total of 18 TD’s, to only 4 interceptions. Lonergan also averages over 290 yards a game, with an average of over 13 yards a pass. The primary recipients of his passes include that of Samuel Mbake, Denylon Morrissette, Stone Bonner, and Conley Davis. Morrissette, who has a total of 600 yards and 6 TD’s, as well as Mbake, who has 373 total yards and 5 TD’s, lead the team in receiving. The Broncos have also had success on the ground as well, as they have totaled over 1,000 rushing yards so far this season. Alexander Diggs, Lonergan and Jumal Prothro all have over 200 yards.
While the offense has thrived so far this season, the defense has not done awful, but could use a bit of work. Star DB, Marquis Killebrew is having a solid season, with 23 tackles, and 2 interceptions. With this, Niles Prince, Princeton Brown, and Jordan Davenport have all been effective, making solo, and team tackles. Davenport specifically, has had a majority of the success on the defensive side of the ball due to his 35 total tackles, and 5 sacks. He has done all of this while only being a Sophomore. Along with Davenport, two other Broncos have also recorded sacks. This includes that of Jackson Schulz, and Princeton Brown, who have each already had 3 sacks. While the team’s defense continues to improve, it can only hope that it will be ready to face some of the top offenses in the state as the playoffs come rolling around.
