Caleb Carrillo Caleb Carrillo 5'8" | 160 lbs | QB Farmington | 2021 State NM , Farmington: Statistically, Carrillo is clearly the top quarterback in Northern New Mexico. He passed for 2,992 yards and 36 touchdowns in leading the Scorpions to a top four seed and the quarterfinals of the Class 5A playoffs last season. With only seven regular season games, he likely won’t match his prolific numbers from 2019, but Farmington is a threat again with Carrillo standing in the pocket slinging the ball around the field.
Cael Stewart, Miyamura: The 6-foot-4, 180-pound junior should start getting calls from colleges after his junior campaign in the spring. He’s got the size coaches at the next level crave, and chances are he keeps growing. That’s why he might have the most promise of any QB in northern New Mexico. He’ll need to improve his numbers if Miyamura hopes to survive a difficult district with Farmington, Piedra Vista and Highland, but we believe he will.
Dylan Quartieri Dylan Quartieri 6'1" | QB Raton | 2022 State NM , Raton: Half of one of the most dynamic QB-RB combinations in Class 3A, Quartieri threw for 1,288 yards and 12 touchdowns as a sophomore in 2019. He also ran for 250 yards as a complement to sensational sophomore Cayden Walton, who rushed for over 1,900 yards. Raton is going to be exceedingly difficult for opposing defenses to stop this upcoming season.
Marcquis Henry, Aztec: Just a freshman a year ago, Henry is one of the emerging dual threat quarterbacks in the state. Henry threw for 1,245 yards and 13 touchdowns along with rushing for another 399 yards and 3 touchdowns. New head coach Eric Stovall has a valuable weapon in Henry at the game’s most important position.
Luc Jaramillo, Santa Fe: The state’s capitol has a long way to go to become a high school football hotbed and Santa Fe’s massive struggles over the past several years is a major reason for that. But the Demons are on the road back, and Jaramillo is a big reason why. He enjoyed a solid sophomore campaign by throwing for 890 yards and nine touchdowns while running for 285 yards.
Honorable Mention: Troy White-David Troy White-David 6'2" | 175 lbs | QB Kirtland Central | 2021 State NM (Kirtland Central); Matthew Gonzales Matthew Gonzales 5'5" | QB Robertson | 2022 State NM (Robertson); Ollie Fell (Espanola Valley); Devry Vigil (Santa Fe Indian); Devonn Leyba Holmes (Pojoaque Valley); Tyler Weiss (Los Alamos).
