Lipsey, the next standout basketball player to come out of Ames following the likes of Fred Hoiberg, Harrison Barnes and Doug McDermott, broke out on the football field.
Here’s a look at Lipsey and the other standout offensive players from Class 4A, District 2:
Tamin Lipsey – Ames (2022)
It started for Tamin Lipsey in Week 1 when he accounted for 369 yards passing, 203 yards rushing and eight touchdowns against Fort Dodge. And it continued through the first round of the playoffs with 346 yards rushing, 139 yards passing and five touchdowns.
All in all, Lipsey has 1,023 yards passing on 57 percent completions with 10 touchdowns, adding 937 yards and 11 scores on the ground.
It would be a lot of fun to see what Lipsey could develop into when it comes to football, but his future is in basketball and it will be a spectacular one.
Malik Haynes – Marshalltown (2021)
Carson Williams Carson Williams 6'5" | 235 lbs | TE Marshalltown | 2021 State IA garners a lot of the headlines from Marshalltown and for good reason, but Malik Haynes made the most of his opportunities as well.
The senior ran for 683 yards with five touchdowns, adding a couple receptions and another score.
Averaging nearly eight yards per carry, Haynes has the type of feature back speed you want. All at over 200 pounds on his frame which presents quite the punch coming downfield.
Isaiah Sterns – Ankeny Centennial (2022)
It was a tough season in terms of wins and losses for Ankeny Centennial, but Isaiah Sterns and other underclassmen present a bright future.
Sterns caught 24 passes for 310 yards, averaging nearly 13 yards per reception.
At 6-foot-2 and 180 pounds, there is definitely something here to watch. Sterns could make for an excellent outside receiver and TD threat in the end zone.
Trent Brown – Des Moines East (2022)
Hopefully next year we will get to see Trent Brown and Des Moines East play a complete season. Because in just a few chances, he looked very interesting.
Brown threw for 233 yards and two touchdowns on 19 of 34 passing with 106 yards rushing on 22 carries.
His future is likely at a different position, but Brown is a playmaker on the field and someone you just want to have on your roster.
