The wide receiver position is arguably the second-most important position in any offense, and tight ends can provide some of the best strategies for offenses across the country and here are the five receivers/tight ends to watch in Central Texas.
1. Jacob Trussell Jacob Trussell 6'5" | 210 lbs | TE Georgetown | 2021 TX – Georgetown High School (Georgetown, TX)
Trussell is a three-star tight end out of Georgetown who has committed to New Mexico. In 2019, he recorded eight receptions for 105 yards and one touchdown. In 2018, he recorded eight receptions for 244 yards and one touchdown. While he hasn’t put up astronomical numbers, he is big, sneaky in his routes, and has enough power and speed to score. He can create big plays from a short screen or a simple drag route. He will be interesting to watch in his senior season.
He also received offers from Fordham, Lamar, Missouri State, Stephen F. Austin and UTSA.
2. Stayton Ankrom – Reagan High School (San Antonio, TX)
In 2018, Ankrom was named the District 27-6A Offensive Newcomer of the Year. On top of this award, and judging by his tape, Ankrom is an excellent route runner which has contributed to the many scores and big plays under his belt. He ran a 4.90 for the 40-yard dash, a 4.50 for the shuttle, has a 26 inch vertical and a nine-foot broad jump. He was also given the honor of First Team All-Area for the 2019 season.
3. Josh Cameron – Cedar Park High School (Cedar Park, TX)
Receiving First Team All-State and First Team All-District honors, Cameron has yet to receive an offer during his senior season. Although, he has received interest from Texas State. He has set the Cedar Park record for receptions in a single season with 81. A guy that always is around the ball, Cameron comes up big in that regard and has potential during his senior season.
4. Christian Marshall Christian Marshall 6'3" | 170 lbs | ATH Wilmberley | 2021 TX – Wimberley High School (Wimberley, TX)
Listed as a multi-sport athlete, Marshall has also made his mark as a receiver for the Wimberley Texans. He set the Wimberley single-season receiving yards record with 1,360 in his junior season. The same year, he set the single-season Wimberley receiving touchdown record with 18. On the opposite side of the ball, Marshall also set the single-season interception record for Wimberley with four interceptions. Marshall has yet to receive an offer but has gotten interest from the likes of Baylor, Sam Houston State, UTSA and Yale. Marshall can create big plays with his route-running and speed and is worthy of a look this season.
5. KeSean Raven KeSean Raven 5'9" | 165 lbs | WR Rockdale | 2021 TX – Rockdale High School (Rockdale, TX)
Raven has received multiple offers and has yet to commit. In 2018, he had 438 rushing yards with four touchdowns. Receiving-wise, he had 30 receptions with 358 yards and four touchdowns. In 2019, he became more of a receiver with 42 receptions, 863 yards and 11 touchdowns. He has received offers from Air Force, Arkansas, Southern Miss, UNLV, UTSA, New Mexico, Abilene Christian and Sam Houston State. Raven has speed and the ability to break tackles, making him a threat when he has his eyes set on the endzone. He is hard to stop and hard to tackle, so he will be an interesting watch this season.
