I am trying to build a team with the best offense in North Dakota to compete in national tournaments and, most of all, win the state championship in Fargo. Please take a look at who I am taking to the promised land: the FargoDome to give myself a chance to win a state championship and more!
THE POSITIONS
My All-Star team includes:
2 QB, 2 RB, 2 WR, 2 TEs, and 2 OL.
QB2: Simon Romfo, Langdon Area (2021)
I will start my team with Simon Romfo, who might be North Dakota’s best-kept secret out of Langdon High School just 20 minutes from the Canadian border. Romfo not only has a big arm but has the running ability I want my quarterback to have. Romfo has a proven record of success, having 54 total touchdowns in his junior season. His speed out the box is exceptional, and if you can get him to add his nicely touched throws at all levels to spark, you have North Dakota’s Russell Wilson in a nutshell.
QB1: Reid Hartness, Fargo Davies (2021)
I want my QB1 to have poise and confidence in the pocket, and with that being said, I am taking Reid Hartness as my quarterback to lead my team. Hartness makes the tough throws look like clockwork, and that’s why he was an all-conference and all-state player last year for Fargo Davies. What else do I love about Hartness? You’ll see him mostly in the pocket but don’t think he doesn’t have the legs to get you quality yards too, as he moves pretty darn well in his 6’4 220-pound frame. The tough throws on film look almost effortless, and that’s exactly what I want in my QB1.
RB2: Bakar Fullah, Fargo South (2021)
I don’t need the biggest guys on the field when I have excellent prospects on the line that will make big holes for my running back, and that starts with Bakar Fullah of Fargo South. Fullah goes from 0 to 60 in little to no time at all and cuts so quickly if you blink, you might miss him. Fullah runs so downhill the defense might fall off the cliff if not careful!
RB1: Barika Kpeenu, Sheyenne (2021)
Barika, the NDSU commit, is a sneaky back that will make the cuts needed to win that state championship. Kpeenu gives me the shiftiness at the start when he’s evading tacklers and then has a burst to take the ball to the end zone. Plus, Kpeenu averaged almost a first down per carry last season for Sheyenne at 8.2 ypc, so I can’t go wrong with that!
WR2: Jacob Hilgemann, Jamestown (2021)
Hilgemann gives me plenty of options at the wide receiver position with so many different routes to run. If I need a first down, I know Hilgemann will have the awareness to get that for the team. Hilgemann has some zip off the line, too, which will be tough for the secondary to defend. Hilgemann also will make some quality cuts to get open!
WR1: Carson Hegerle, West Fargo (2022)
Sizeable wide receivers are what I need next. Not just size, but great speed off the snap, and Carson Hegerle of West Fargo gives me both. Standing at 6’4, Hegerle gives me mid/high 4s speed and a wide receiver that will go up and get me any ball my quarterback throws his way. Hegerle is also a player I can put on the line and give me some aggressive blocks to pave the way for my running backs as his film doesn’t lie that he can do that too. Hegerle could also be a matchup nightmare in my secondary, which we will get to in a future article. Hegerle’s potential is also excellent too.
TE2: Austin Richter, Hazen (2021)
A long tight end at 6’6 with a little pep in his step will help my offense with Austin Richter of Hazen. When I first saw Austin’s tape, I knew I needed a tight end with a little grit in his game, which is what he brings this fantasy football team. Richter’s got a nice stiff arm to get tacklers off of him and drag guys for that first down I am looking for when the team needs it.
TE1: Aiden Carlson, Fargo North (2021)
Carlson gives this team the best of both worlds at tight end: a player that can block pretty well and get what you want out of your tight ends, first downs. Carlson also gives my tight end’s better vision as his ability to make a quick block out of nowhere is what I was looking for when I made this team. Carlson would also be a solid asset to this roster at linebacker on the other side of the football.
OL2: Sam Sather, Grand Forks Red River (2021)
Sather gives me a player that can make a quick pancake or dismantle those defensive linemen with the great momentum he gets on his blocks. His tough frame at 6’4 295 gives those running backs some massive guys to pave their way for first down after first down and hopefully plenty of touchdowns!
OL1: Andrew Leingang, Bismarck Century (2021)
When you compete for a championship, you have to get the best, and Leingang will pave so many blocks for my running backs we might set a North Dakota pancake record! Leingang’s versatility on his blocks gives us a “do everything” type player on our offensive line. His fast feet, drive, and ability to pull block will indeed get us to the FargoDome!
