This was a big week for the matchup as Oliver was looking to even the series at two wins apiece, and I was looking to get back to the two game lead that I lost last week. Before I was able to crunch the numbers we did have to do some slight roster adjustments. Unfortunately, Oliver West had to replace star RB/LB Will Straka Will Straka 6'1" | 215 lbs | LB Mineral Point | 2021 State WI after the news came out that Mineral Point was going to have to cancel the remainder of their season. He decided to replace him with the dominant RB/DB, Grover Bortolotti Grover Bortolotti 5'10" | 185 lbs | DB Whitefish Bay | 2021 State WI from Whitefish Bay. Now that the season is past the halfway point I hope that we won’t have this sort of issue again and we can finish the season off strong. Let’s get into this week’s results!
As you can see, my team was able to get the 56.8 point victory over Oliver’s team and move to 3-1 on the year. It was an impressive performance by my team this week. In the head to head matchups we went 8-1, losing only in the flex slot. The biggest performances for both teams came from the QB and RB positions. In a standard scoring league you have to expect that, but the numbers this week are pretty wild.
For my team, Adam Moen Adam Moen 6'3" | 185 lbs | QB Lake Mills | 2021 State WI threw and ran his way to 39.9 points thanks to his 218 passing yards, 3 passing TDs, 14 rushing yards, and 3 rushing TDs. For Oliver’s team, Riley Christensen Riley Christensen 6'2" | 220 lbs | LB Belmont | 2021 State WI really put on a show with his legs on his way to putting up 36.8 points and 58 passing yards, 107 rushing yards, and 4 rushing TDs.
My team continues to hold strong at the RB position as they put up over 100 points between the three of them. Zach Wallace Zach Wallace 5'11" | 195 lbs | RB Burlington | 2021 State WI continues to be a beast for Burlington as he posted 257 rushing yards, and 5 TDs. Obacoso Allen Obacoso Allen 5'10" | 180 lbs | RB Catholic Memorial | 2022 State WI makes his first appearance in the starting lineup on the back of the best performance of the week. He did it on the ground and through the air as he went for 164 rushing yards, 3 rushing yards, and 1 receiving TD. Tanner Marsh Tanner Marsh 5'11" | 185 lbs | RB Mondovi | 2021 State WI was my third star RB this week as he came through with 106 rushing yards, 2 rushing TDs, and 41 passing yards.
Oliver’s RBs did a great job of keeping it close as his three RBs combined for over 90 points this week. Tate Sauerwein Tate Sauerwein 5'10" | 210 lbs | LB Lake Holcombe-Cornell | 2021 State WI continues to be a huge piece for Oliver’s team after he posted 19 receiving yards, 149 rushing yards, and 3 rushing TDs. Cooper Nichols Cooper Nichols 5'11" | 170 lbs | WR Stanley- Boyd | 2022 State WI has been another must start for Oliver as he did his usual thing and went off for 6 receptions, 174 receiving yards, and 2 receiving TDs. Cooper has been used as an RB and WR at different points this season, but we are going to keep labeling him an RB for now. Lastly for Oliver’s team, his new kid on the block went off this week. Grover Bortolotti Grover Bortolotti 5'10" | 185 lbs | DB Whitefish Bay | 2021 State WI put up 192 rushing yards, 1 rushing TD, and added 5 additional receiving yards.
Where the big point discrepancy came from was my WR/TE slots. Quinn Taege Quinn Taege 6'3" | 210 lbs | TE Freedom | 2021 State WI went off for nearly 100 yards and scored twice. Jack Martens Jack Martens 5'11" | 185 lbs | WR Cumberland | 2021 State WI continued to be an unstoppable force posting 108 yards, and two scores of his own. Cyle Kowalski Cyle Kowalski 6'0" | 155 lbs | WR Mosinee | 2021 State WI made his second appearance on the team with his 42 yards and two scores. The scoring was consistent and often for this group and they really gave my team the edge.
With that, I want to say good luck to everyone in week five! I can’t wait to track the stat lines everyone puts up and watch the film of some of the most dominant high school players in the state. I also can’t wait to continue with this fun activity. It’s mostly just for a fun time, but it has really shown how consistent week in and week out the best players in the state are.
