The Gaels snapped a five-game losing streak to rival Bishop Garrigan in convincing fashion Friday night, 62-14.
In a series that dates back to the 1950s, the teams tend to play close, competitive games.
That was not the case this year.
Drew Schaeffer had three passing touchdowns and ran for two more, Kase Baker scored three times on plays over 50 yards and St. Edmond completely controlled the contest.
“We finally put everything together: offense, defense and special teams,” Schaeffer said.”
Schaeffer, who set the school’s single-season record for yards passing, added to his total by completing 9 of 12 for 155 yards. Parker Oswald caught four passes including a highlight-reel touchdown in the second quarter, Anthony Lacina had a 58-yard TD catch and a third senior, Sean Flattery, caught a 22-yard TD pass from Schaeffer.
His effort on the night – and season – earned him a post-game head-rub from an assistant coach.

Baker ran for 163 yards with much of that coming on first quarter TD jaunts of 64 and 50 yards. The senior also returned the opening kickoff in the second half back 80 yards for a score.
“(Friday) was the best ever,” Baker said. “We all got locked in and got the job done.”
Baker also became the 30th running back in program history to surpass 1,000 yards rushing in their career.
Derrick Kirsch ran for 170 yards to lead the Golden Bears and Joey Trainer caught a touchdown pass from Kellen Murphy.
St. Edmond, which went 4-0 at home this season, opens the playoffs vs. Madrid back here. Bishop Garrigan heads to Lake Mills.
