Friday Night Treat: Bolles and Baker County Tonight
When the well known Joe Pinkos Poll, which is something that many fans use as a bible of favorites and non favorites, listed Jacksonville Bolles as a 7 point underdog to undefeated Baker County, it came as a surprise to many football fans.
We are not saying that it’s NOT going to be the margin, but this was a game that many would overlook – because head coach Kevin Mays and this program were still in the middle of rebuilding while the Bulldogs were stacked after last year’s run at a 4A state title.
Tonight (7:00) when the Bulldogs (3-1) will visits a hungry and Baker County squad that has put the ‘pedal to the metal’ this season with five straight wins.
In beating Bradford County (33-6), Orange Park (49-0), Jacksonville Ed White (47-0), Jacksonville Westside (35-6) and Jacksonville Terry Parker (42-14), this team relied on players on both sides of the ball and strong special teams.
For the Bulldogs, who dropped that tough state title game to Miami Booker T. Washington in 2019, getting back to state has been the focus since that early December loss in Daytona Beach.
For head coach Matthew Toblin and his staff, wins over Jacksonville Trinity Christian (36-12), St. Augustine (40-23), Palatka (49-0) and Ocala Trinity Catholic (24-7), were the positives – while a close 31-24 setback to St. Johns Creekside put the focus back in the season.
Tonight’s game will certainly test both teams as they prepare for the stretch run in the regular season.
