Points were hard to come by, but it was Milton who got on the board first thanks to a screen pass to junior running back Jordan McDonald who took it for a 16-yard score. McDonald had his hands full against a tough Cedar Grove front 7 led by defensive lineman Christen Miller, one of the top 2022 defensive tackles in the country. Miller was excellent against the run and really helped put pressure on Milton QB Devin Farrell Devin Farrell 6'0" | 190 lbs | QB Milton | 2022 State GA in the 4th quarter.
The Cedar Grove defense recorded 7 total sacks on the night, an impressive feat against a strong Milton offensive line along with tight end Jack Nickel Jack Nickel 6'4" | 230 lbs | TE Milton | 2022 State GA who is committed to play for Notre Dame. The Saints defensive lineman with the biggest game was 2023 defensive end Joshua White Joshua White 6'4" | 240 lbs | DL Cedar Grove | 2022 State GA . The 6-foot-4 240-pounder is long, athletic, and made an impact from the start. He’s a true pass-rusher who knows how to get to the quarterback. He’s got a great burst off the line and has enough strength and length to get off blocks from the average offensive tackle.
Again, the Milton Eagles are a great team. They’ve built a winning program in 7A and they couldn’t get anything going offensively. When they were put in obvious passing situations, Cedar Grove could pin their ears back and made life very uncomfortable for Eagle QB Devin Farrell Devin Farrell 6'0" | 190 lbs | QB Milton | 2022 State GA .
The Eagles did jump to an early 7-0 start, but Cedar Grove started to get things clicking offensively in the 2nd half. Late in the 4th quarter, senior quarterback Austin Jackson took a draw play and bolted down the sideline for the go-ahead 22-yard touchdown run. Jackson didn’t get a ton going through the air, but when he needed to find a playmaker, he looked to running back Rashod Dubinion, a speedy weapon who was tough to corral for the Milton defense. He proved why he’s a major D! prospect.
Other defensive lineman for Cedar Grove who made an impact were Demarius Jackson, two sacks, and Adonijah Green, one sack. 2023 CB CB Kayin Lee Kayin Lee 6'0" | 160 lbs | DB Cedar Grove | 2023 State GA also had a big game, breaking up a pass on the final play in the end-zone to secure the victory.
For the Eagles, sophomore defensive end Lebbeus Overton proved why he’s one of the nation’s top 2023 prospects. He was outstanding once again, recording multiple tackles and causing pressure the entire game. He’s explosive, he can stop the run, and he looked like a 5-star prospect on Friday night.
