Game Week Preview: Westonka White Hawks
MOUND– My trip out to Mound was just a few days before the MSHSL flipped their decision to play fall football, so at that time, the White Hawks were just happy to get out there and practice! They got their wish four days later, as they are ready to play some late fall football in Mound! The White Hawks are coming off a 7-3 season and look to be just as competitive this season. We’ll take a look at the White Hawks’ schedule, the prospect list of next-level talent, and more!
THE SCHEDULE
The White Hawk’s first three games are tough starting away from Haddorff Field. In my opinion, their biggest must-watch is a Saturday afternoon game against the Polars of Minneapolis North, which is a game I certainly think I’ll be in attendance for.
Friday, 10/9: @ Providence Academy, Plymouth, 7 PM
Thursday 10/15: @ SMB, 1 PM
Saturday, 10/24: vs. Minneapolis North, 1 PM
Friday, 10/30: @ Fridley, 6 PM
Friday, 11/6: vs. St Anthony, 7 PM
Thursday, 11/12: vs. Bloomington Kennedy, 7 PM
THE PROSPECT LIST
These names should be on your next level prospect list, as they showed to be the most impressive from my viewing of the White Hawks practice:
Tucker Anderly Tucker Anderly ATH Mound Westonka | 2021 State MN , RB/LB (2021)
Anderly is a solid runner that has some shift to his game. A lot tougher to tackle at running back than you might expect as Anderly also starts for the White Hawks at linebacker too! Anderly is looking at a few Division III programs for his future football plans.
One Food to Eat for the Rest of His Life: Alaskan King Crablegs
Elevator Pitch to College Coaches: Anderly said, “when I am on the football field, I’ll give you everything I got even I lose a finger, I’ll keep playing,” which should show coaches here how dedicated of a football player Anderly is for the White Hawks and will bring that same mentality your college program.
Trent Bowe, WR/DB (2021)
Bowe was one that was a little off my radar from my first trip to Mound earlier this summer but has caught in the attention in NAIA with a recent offer from Dordt University out of Iowa. I can certainly see why, because Bowe has a nice burst when football is his hands. A pretty sound defensive back that’s not afraid to make a player either!
One Food to Eat for the Rest of His Life: Shrimp
Elevator Pitch to College Coaches: High IQ when it comes to football, been around the game for a long time, and is an athletic threat on both sides of the football
Tyler Von Bank, QB (2022)
Von Bank is a prospect that can do a little of everything as QB1. Mobile enough to get you that first down on a 3rd down play and has great arm strength on his balls between 10-16 yards. Von Bank needs a little development in his length of windup when he throws, but it looked even better in person than the film might show from last year!
Michael Nolen, OL/LB (2021)
No Tape on Nolen, but I have a great feeling this kid is going to be an asset for the White Hawks this season. Excellent build and looks to be a strong competitor on the line and at linebacker.
Logan Leonard, WR/FS, (2021)
Leonard is a very lengthy prospect, to say the least. You will find out from Leonard that his speed is a huge asset compared to most players around his size. Leonard’s name was called on a lot on screen plays during practice a few weeks back, because why not? The length, speed, and size are all wins for this kid as Leonard is a prospect that I think should be higher on college programs radar than he is with his two offers.
Elevator Pitch to College Coaches: His height and speed are huge to Logan’s game, but Logan said his “football IQ and how he pictures the football game,’ are key reasons he should be on more college radars.
One Food to Eat for the Rest of His Life: Steak.
Tyler Marshall, WR/DB (2022)
Tape vs. Minnetonka Fall League
Cristian Christensen, ATH (2022)
Christensen got some light reps at running back as a sophomore but might be another one to watch in 2020. He is quite undersized but has quite a bit of jolt in his legs; when he gets to the outside, he could break one!
TEAM ANSWERS
Best Team Moment in 2019: Putting together the best practice before the playoff game against SMB last season, knowing they were underdogs going up against many Division I prospects. Coming together as one in 20-degree weather, knowing they could face the Wolfpack.
Describe Your Offseason in a Few Words: Different, Hardworking, and Fun, Up and down mentality, not been normal at all, some parts boring.
Looking Forward to 2020: The White Hawks got their wish, as they hoped to see games with fans in 2020 in which they will be allowed to have 250 fans at Haddorff Field and hopefully more as the season goes on. These seniors are ready for their “grand finale” in their senior season, to see what kind of fireworks they can create at Westonka. Thanks to Head Coach Nick David for having Prep Redzone Minnesota out at practice!
