Some of these players have impressed, and have even tied some of the most impressive players in the state in statistical categories. Below, we have listed some of the players who are worth checking out due to their high level of personal success, and overall success for their teams so far this season.
Dylan Lonergan Dylan Lonergan 6'2" | 200 lbs | QB Brookwood | 2023 State GA (QB)- 2nd in Passing Yards- Brookwood High
While Kyle Moseley of Georgia Force Christian High still leads the entire state of Georgia in passing, Sophomore QB, Dylan Lonergan Dylan Lonergan 6'2" | 200 lbs | QB Brookwood | 2023 State GA of Brookwood High School has also slowly made a name for himself among the stats charts. Not only has he already passed for 1520 total yards, but he has managed to do so within a short period of 5 games. If Lonergan keeps playing this consistently, he may make a name for himself as an eventual leader in passing for the state of Georgia. With his incredibly high amount of passing yards so far, he has also tossed 14 TD’s and has averaged over 300 yards a game. If this isn’t impressive enough, he has managed to do so with only 3 interceptions. This amount of success should come as no surprise due to the fact that he received plenty of Power 5 offers this past summer, while also receiving an offer from Florida on October 1st. Not bad for a Sophomore.
Jake Cieply(LB)- Leader in Tackles- Georgia Force Christian High
Jake Cieply, a LB from Georiga Force Christian High has a commanding lead with his 88 total tackles so far this season. out of the 88 tackles he has accumulated, 60 of these tackles were solo tackles. Along with this, Cieply has also already totaled 4 sacks, and has averaged around 14 tackles a game. All in all, this has helped lead his team to a 4-2 record so far, in which his teams defense has had very strong showings each game. GFCH will continue to get Cieply’s best as he is just a Junior this season, and will only continue to grow and develop into his frame, and ability to play defensive football at a high level.
Ethan Nation(CB)- 2nd in Interceptions- Roswell High
Following Aaron Gates Aaron Gates 6'0" | 180 lbs | ATH Trinity | 2023 State GA , who plays at Trinity High School in Sharpsburg, Ethan Nation from Roswell High School is listed as being 2nd in the state in interceptions. Despite this, he has managed to tie Gates, as he has 5 interceptions on the season as well. So far this season, Gates has shown a great level of production. This was definitely seen in his game against North Paulding High School, as he totaled 2 interceptions. Due to the fact that he and Gates are tied for the most interceptions in the state, it will be interesting to see who wears the crown at the end of the season. Players to watch out for who also have a few interceptions on the season include that of Ayden Duncanson Ayden Duncanson 6'2" | 175 lbs | DB Whitefield Academy | 2023 State GA of Whitefield Academy, who also has 5, and Caydin Mowen, who plays at Forsyth Central, who has 4 interceptions.
Jamari Jones(DE)- Leader in Sacks- Terrell County
After an eventful week of high school football last week, Georgia now has a new sack leader. That sack leader is Jamari Jones, of Terrell County. While originally listed at DB, Jones has been playing on the defensive end this season, and is no doubt having an incredible season doing it. So far, Jones has 11 sacks this season, in which 5 came in one game against Crawford County. With that, he also had another impressive game, in which he totaled 3 sacks this past week against Randolph-Clay High. This defensive production has helped his team to a 2-1 record so far, and has also resulted in 26 total tackles. Jones isn’t the only player to have 11 sacks though, as Hudson Tucker of Camden County has also accomplished the same success in 6 games. Due to the fact that Jones has managed to do so in half the time is impressive in itself, and we expect him to continue to have a monstrous season, and to raise his stock and potential opportunities to play at the next level.
