Throughout the first 4 official weeks of high school football within the state of Georgia, we already have some evident leaders in a few key categories: Passing Yards, Receiving Yards, Rushing Yards, Points, TD’s, Interceptions, and Sacks. Below, we have listed the leaders in each of these categories, with a brief description of their already monstrous seasons.
Kyle Moseley (QB)- Leader in Passing Yards- Georgia Force Christian High School
So far, during this 2020 season, Kyle Moseley, a Senior player, has had an unbelievable showing. He has led his team to a 4-1 record, and also leads the entire state in passing yards. Over 5 games, he has totaled 1,340 passing yards, for 19 TD passes, and only 4 interceptions. Each game, he averages over 260 yards, which has had a huge impact on his team, as each of his team’s wins have been with a total of more than 21 points. As Moseley continues to lead the state in passing, he will hope to gain even more attention in recruiting, as he also has more passing yards than highly touted QB prospects, Sam Horn Sam Horn 6'4" | 190 lbs | QB Collins Hill | 2022 State GA , and Brock Vandagriff Brock Vandagriff 6'3" | 200 lbs | QB Prince Avenue Christian School | 2021 State GA .
Jessie Phelps Jr. (RB)- Leader in Rushing Yards- Rutland High School
Jessie Phelps leads the state of Georgia in rushing yards, but barely. At this point of the season, he has totaled 875 total rushing yards in just 3 weeks. Yes, you read that right, in just 3 weeks. Each game, Phelps averaged more than 291 rushing yards a game, with another average of 10.5 yards per carry. On the season, he has totaled 9 TD’s, with 6 being in his team’s most recent game against the Academy for Classical Education. Entering into this next game, Phelps should continue to add on to his yards total, and will continue to do his best to put his name out there for college coaches. His production this season proves that his ability is even bigger than his physical size.
Travis Hunter Travis Hunter 6'1" | 165 lbs | ATH Collins Hill | 2022 State GA (WR/DB)- Leader in Receiving Yards- Collins Hill
Travis Hunter Travis Hunter 6'1" | 165 lbs | ATH Collins Hill | 2022 State GA , the 2022 5 star DB out of Collins Hill, who is committed to Florida State as a DB, currently leads the entire state of Georgia in receiving. Through the first few games of the season, Hunter has already totaled 617 receiving yards, which is over 50 yards more than the second place leader in receiving yards throughout the state. This comes as no surprise due to his elite dominance on the football field, as well as his twitch and speed with the football in his hands. While he leads the state in receiving, he also has 3 interceptions so far this season, with 18 tackles.
Jabin Ford (QB)- Leader in Total Points, and TD’s- Taylor County
Jabin Ford, a Junior QB out of Taylor County High school has quickly found himself in the top statistical charts in the state. At this point of the season, he has already contributed to 76 of his teams points. To put this into perspective, his team has scored 122 total points- making his 76 points over half of the teams total points as a whole. If this isn’t impressive enough, Ford also leads the state in TD’s, as he has already seen the end zone 12 times this season, which was all within the span of only three games. With this, his team is undefeated so far this season, and will hope to add on to this win total, entering into their next game against Manchester High on October 9, 2020.
Aaron Gates Aaron Gates 6'0" | 180 lbs | ATH Trinity | 2023 State GA (DB)- Leader in Interceptions- Trinity Christian (Sharpsburg)
The leader of interceptions so far this season comes from a smaller, private Christian School in Sharpsburg, GA. Aaron Gates Aaron Gates 6'0" | 180 lbs | ATH Trinity | 2023 State GA , who leads the state in interceptions, has already totaled 5 interceptions on the season. What’s even crazier about these statistics is the fact that 4 of these interceptions came in one game, against Hampton High School. While Aaron Gates Aaron Gates 6'0" | 180 lbs | ATH Trinity | 2023 State GA is said to lead the state, it should also be noted that Ayden Duncanson Ayden Duncanson 6'2" | 175 lbs | DB Whitefield Academy | 2023 State GA , out of Whitfield Academy, also has 5 interceptions. The season will go on to tell who deserves to wear the crown as the leader of interceptions in the state of Georgia.
Holden Sapp (OLB)- Leader in Sacks- Benedictine
Holden Sapp, a 6’1, 200 pound LB out of Benedictine High, leads the entire state in sacks, with a total of 8.5 sacks. With this, he also already has 53 total tackles, and averages over 10 tackles a game. So far, this production has been very crucial for Benedictine High, as they are already 5-0. If Sapp can continue to produce at a high level, this well help in many ways as Benedictine faces Ware County, another undefeated team, this upcoming Friday.
