We are now one step closer to reach the UNI-Dome in Cedar Falls, and one game closer to crowning champions across the state.
But before we move into discussing the quarterfinals, we must look back to this past week and check in on the biggest games and best performances.
Ankeny Puts Up 70 In Laugher
Ankeny had no concerns of looking ahead, rolling past Council Bluffs Jefferson, 70-0.
Jase Bauer Jase Bauer 6'1" | 205 lbs | QB Ankeny | 2021 State IA was 8 of 10 passing for 155 yards and three touchdowns, Arland Bruce IV Arland Bruce IV 5'10" | 195 lbs | ATH Ankeny | 2021 State IA , Brody Brecht Brody Brecht 6'4" | 205 lbs | WR Ankeny | 2021 State IA and Kade Somers each caught a TD pass and Colin Kadolph Colin Kadolph 6'0" | 190 lbs | RB Ankeny | 2022 State IA ran for 174 yards on six carries with five trips to the end zone.
The Jaguars rushed for 311 yards on just 19 carries, averaging over 16 yards per rush. Kadolph had 29 yards each time he touched the ball.
Ankeny’s defense recorded four turnovers, 14 tackles for loss and two sacks.
Knaack, Opheim Run Over Ogden
Logan Knaack and Zach Opheim had big games for Grundy Center in a 48-6 victory over Ogden.
Knaack was 6 of 10 passing for 121 yards and a TD to Nick Ascher Nick Ascher 6'4" | 220 lbs | TE Grundy Center | 2021 IA with 94 yards and three scores on the ground while Opheim ran12 times for 123 yards and three scores.
Grundy Center led 14-0 after one and 35-0 by halftime. The defense forced two turnovers, with Knaack picking off a pass and recovering a fumble.
Dunlap Perfect For Emmetsburg
Emmetsburg has one of the more storied histories in the state.
The E-Hawks are adding more to that resume behind Ben Dunlap, as the senior quarterback was 5-for-5 for 137 yards with two passing touchdowns in a win over Carroll Kuemper.
Dunlap also ran for a TD and had an interception on defense.
6-TD Night For M-SM’s Franey
Jack Franey is making sure to take advantage of every opportunity he has to play.
The Martensdale-St. Mary’s senior recorded six total touchdowns in a 65-28 victory over Collins-Maxwell.
Franey, who has committed to Central, was 8 of 17 passing for 197 yards with five scores, adding 37 yards and a TD on the ground. Troy Holt caught two of the passing scores with JT Archibald anchoring the defense with a sack and five tackles for loss.
Hey Look, Valley Continues To Win
Coming into the playoffs at just 2-4, many probably expected West Des Moines Valley to just roll over and bow out.
But not these Tigers.
Valley scored 10 quick points in the first and added touchdowns in the second and third to distance themselves from Council Bluffs Lincoln in posting a 44-6 victory.
The road gets tougher for the Tigers as they head to Urbandale this week.
DeJean Needs Just A Half
Cooper DeJean Cooper DeJean 6'2" | 205 lbs | ATH OA-BCIG | 2021 State IA , one of the top players in the state who has committed to Iowa, played just one half this past week.
But boy was it exciting.
DeJean threw for 226 yards, ran for 20, had five offensive touchdowns and returned a punt for a score in a 49-7 victory for the defending state champion Falcons.
Griffin Diersen had three receiving touchdowns and 103 yards on three catches.
