Arland Bruce IV Arland Bruce IV 5'10" | 195 lbs | ATH Ankeny | 2021 State IA , who came to Ankeny from out-of-state, ran 11 times for 62 yards and a score while catching three passes for 24 yards and a touchdown. Bruce has committed to the University of Iowa alongside teammate Brody Brecht Brody Brecht 6'4" | 205 lbs | WR Ankeny | 2021 State IA .
Ankeny rode its high-octane offense to a convincing win over Johnston, 49-0. Jase Bauer Jase Bauer 6'1" | 205 lbs | QB Ankeny | 2021 State IA was nearly perfect, completing 17 of 18 for 156 yards and two scores. The Hawks piled up 230 yards passing and 161 on the ground.
Here’s a look at some of the more noteworthy games and performances from Week 6 action around the state:
DeJean Lights Up Scoreboards As OABCIG Takes Marquee Matchup
University of Iowa commit Cooper DeJean Cooper DeJean 6'2" | 205 lbs | ATH OA-BCIG | 2021 State IA showed why he just might be the best player in the state of Iowa.
DeJean had over 500 yards of total offense as defending state champion OABCIG downed Underwood, 49-22.
The Falcons raced out to a 14-0 lead and never looked back.
DeJean completed 21 of 36 for 249 yards with two scores, adding 273 yards and four touchdowns with his legs. Easton Harms Easton Harms 6'1" | 185 lbs | WR OABCIG | 2022 State IA had nine receptions for 97 yards and caught both touchdowns.
OABCIG’s defense had two sacks from Keaton Railsback and Ethan Shever, with Harms and Shever adding interceptions.
In six games, DeJean has 1,709 yards passing and 17 touchdowns with another 621 yards and 11 scores on the ground.
Emmetsburg Wins Spotlight Game Over West Sioux
In another of the featured games of the week, Emmetsburg used a two-point conversion in overtime to best West Sioux, 36-35, and improve to 5-0.
Cole Shirk ran for 158 yards and a touchdown, with Ben Dunlap throwing a TD to Lex Kassel. Dunlap also had seven tackles on defense.
The E-Hawks racked up 291 yards rushing with Colby Weir scoring twice. They had three sacks and six tackles for loss, with Weir adding a pick-six.
Frost Carries Don Bosco To Victory
Cael Frost used his legs and arm to keep Don Bosco unbeaten and hand Easton Valley its first loss of the season, 54-34.
The Dons and River Hawks put on a show in the first quarter, with Easton Valley leading 21-20. From there, though Frost and company were in command.
The senior quarterback completed four passes for 101 yards and two touchdowns, but hurt Easton Valley all night with his legs, carrying the ball 40 times for 379 yards and four trips to the end zone.
Conor Gruver had 206 yards and three passing scores to lead Easton Valley.
Indianola Flexes Its Defense
Everyone loves to talk about offense, offense, offense. Indianola has plenty of it, but the Indians also showed they can play defense too.
Indianola shut Ames out, posting a 31-0 victory. Carter Erickson had a pair of sacks and recovered a fumble, making six tackles in all. The defense had 10 tackles for loss, three sacks and forced three turnovers.
And that offense? It was spot-on as C.J. Kuehl completed 9 of 11 for 126 yards, Brady Blake threw for 114 yards and Kael Kolarik had 110 yards rushing and four scores. Kolarik also caught four passes for 84 yards.
Mighty Regina Clicking Right Along
Iowa City Regina has become a state power, winning multiple titles over the past decade.
The Regals enter Week 7 with a 5-1 record after blasting Columbus, 47-22. Ashton Cook Ashton Cook 6'5" | 205 lbs | QB Regina Catholic | 2021 IA completed 12 of 18 passes for 241 yards and four touchdowns, with Alec Wick Alec Wick 6'2" | 185 lbs | WR Regina Catholic | 2021 IA catching four balls for 128 yards and a pair of scores.
Theo Kolie had nine rushes and scored on a third of them, adding 191 yards and another receiving TD.
From 2008-2017, Iowa City Regina won 122 games and lost just 11 times. That includes a four-year stretch where they went 14-0 each season.
