Right now, Petrucci is the most heavily recruited prospect on this list. He recently picked up offers from Bowling Green & Yale, and I can almost guarantee you that won’t be the last of them. Chris dominated the lower levels last fall, and we even named him our Non-Varsity Offensive MVP. He’s got a great mixture of size and speed that he uses to overwhelm defenders. He’s magnificent with the ball in his hands in space and looks like a running back after the catch. He’s a tweener right now; I don’t know if he’s a tight end or a wide receiver. I will say this though if Chris can add another ten pounds and shows on film that he can block inline, you’re looking at a Power-Five tight end, no question.
QB: Cole Teschner, Schaumburg, SO
One of the up and coming quarterback prospects in the state of Illinois. Teschner has excelled this off-season in multiple camps and for Boom’s 7 on 7 team. He’s got a solid arm for a young quarterback and great timing with his wideouts. He’s calm and composed in the pocket and doesn’t get rattled when the defense brings pressure. He’s developed a ton over the last six months and could end up becoming Illinois’ best quarterback prospect in the 2023 class. Only time will tell, I guess.
DB: Grant Larkin, Neuqua Valley, SO
I’ve seen Larkin in person on multiple occasions and always leave so impressed by his skillset. He’s an electric return man with good wiggle and can make you pay if you don’t bring him down on the first attempt. He flat-out burned defenders as a freshman and looked like he was a man amongst boys. If you haven’t watched his tape, I’d encourage you to because this kid is fun to watch. He’s equally as effective as a defensive back, and based on everything he’s told me, that’s likely where he’ll play this fall on varsity. Look for him to be one of the top athlete prospects in Illinois by his Junior year.
DB: Noah Taylor, Lemont, SO
This kid can scoot and has already shown 4.5 speed as just a sophomore. Noah played last season as a 3-4 outside linebacker and showed that he’s extremely slippery and can make plays in the backfield. Right now, he’s made the full transition to defensive back and already looks like a natural. He’s shown loose hips, great route recognition, and good ball skills. His best football is ahead of him, and I think he’ll be one of the top defensive back prospects in Illinois’ 2023 class.
OL: Chris Terek, Glenbard West, SO
If you’re looking for a huge, nasty offensive line prospect, look no further. Terek has elite size at 6’6, 295, but can move too! He’s quick of the ball, plays with a low pad level, and will toss defensive linemen to the ground like rag dolls. He plays with an attitude and can easily work to the second level. He plays fundamentally sound for a young player and consistently bends at the knees. I think if Terek puts in the time and effort not only on the field but in the weight room as well, this is a Power-Five guard at the next level.
